Deacon Blue star dies aged 64: James Prime dies days after he was rushed to intensive care following ‘short struggle’ with cancer
Deacon Blue star James Prime has died at the age of 64.
The band’s co-founder and keyboardist was suddenly admitted to the Intensive Care Unit a few days back, but the cause behind this unexpected hospitalization remains unclear.
It has been officially announced by the band that James was diagnosed with cancer, and they mournfully reported his unfortunate passing.
We’re deeply saddened to share the news that our dear brother, James Prime, lost his battle with cancer this morning.
Or:
With heavy hearts, we inform you of the passing of our brother, James Prime, who lost his fight against cancer this morning.
Both sentences convey the same information but are phrased slightly differently for variety and readability.
I’d like to express our heartfelt gratitude for the encouraging messages you sent during the past fortnight. They truly touched Jim, his loved ones, and us deeply. Warm regards, Deacon Blue.
The band announced last week that they will proceed with their performances, even though James isn’t feeling well.

The band consists of vocalists Ricky Ross and Lorraine McIntosh, along with drummer Dougie Vipond, guitarist Gregor Philp, and bassist Lewis Gordon.
Or simply:
The band features Ricky Ross, Lorraine McIntosh, Dougie Vipond (drums), Gregor Philp (guitar), and Lewis Gordon (bass).
They posted on Instagram, saying: “Friends, we’d like to update you regarding our friend, Jim.
The band went on to say: Regrettably, he’s critically ill and currently receiving treatment in the hospital. We kindly invite you all to send your well wishes and share your affection with him.
Yesterday, we had a conversation with Jim regarding Deacon Blue’s upcoming plans for the remainder of the year. He suggested that we should carry on, keeping love in our hearts, and with his wholehearted approval, the performances should proceed, although temporarily replacing James Miller Prime might be necessary.
Alongside Jim’s loved ones, let us express our gratitude towards every nurse, doctor, and ICU team member for their continuous dedication, expertise, and kindness in caring for Jim.
‘With love, Ricky, Lorraine, Dougie, Gregor, Lewis and Tom.’
Deacon Blue are set to head of on their tour, The Great Western Road Trip, in September.
They will perform at Liverpool Arena on September 19, marking the start of their 15-show tour, which concludes in Glasgow on October 11.
The tour is based on their most recent album with the same title, which came out in March along with a few theater shows.
As a lifestyle enthusiast, I’m excited to share that it’s been 40 incredible years since this iconic band first came together, and they’re continuing to make waves with their latest 2021 album, “Riding on the Tide of Love.
Ricky expressed in a pre-tour statement, “There’s something enchanting about a circus arriving in town, creating a brief, magical interlude amidst the everyday life of a city or hamlet before vanishing once more.
Experience it in person is incredibly captivating, as the live event feels remarkably like real life. The fleeting nature of these performances leaves audiences shedding their reservations once the show concludes, only for the moment to vanish. This is what makes it truly enchanting.
Two unique performances are being planned. One is an ever-changing and developing show, with occasional unexpected delights sprinkled throughout.
In smaller venues, we can showcase unique elements that might not be possible in larger settings. These intimate spaces allow us to perform songs from our latest record as well as tunes from our past works that we’ve never had a chance to play before.
As a lifestyle enthusiast, I can attest that there’s an extraordinary energy at the grand events held in arenas. We meticulously tailor each show to match the venue where we perform, always aiming for the ultimate goal: making it the best night of your life. Each performance is designed to be nothing short of outstanding.
