James Gunn recently shared on Instagram’s Threads that his job as a co-CEO of DC Studios doesn’t have a typical day. He explained that he’s constantly working on many different projects.
What’s the latest update on several DCU projects?
He explained his current projects, mentioning he was developing storyboards and attending meetings for “Man of Tomorrow.” He was also handling pre-production tasks like location scouting and actor selection for the upcoming movie featuring the villain Brainiac.
James Gunn mentioned he’s currently editing both the Supergirl and Lanterns movies and figuring out their marketing strategies. Regarding The Batman, he’s helping Matt Reeves and his team ensure the sequel goes well, and he’s eager to see an early version of the Clayface footage.

DC Studios has a number of exciting projects planned. First up is the Supergirl movie, scheduled for release on June 26, 2026, starring Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El. The story will follow Kara as she teams up with a young woman named Ruthye Marye Knoll on a mission for revenge. Then, on September 11, 2026, DC Studios will release Clayface, featuring Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen/Clayface. The screenplay is written by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini.
In 2026, DC Studios plans to launch “Lanterns,” a new HBO series centered around the Green Lanterns. While a specific release date hasn’t been announced, the show will feature Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan, Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, and Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner. Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poiorna Jagannathan, Ulrich Thomsen, and other actors will also appear in supporting roles.
Both “Man of Tomorrow” and “The Batman: Part II” are scheduled to come out in 2027, with “Man of Tomorrow” releasing on July 9th and “The Batman: Part II” following on October 1st.
