DC’s Highly-Anticipated Movie Gets Positive Update

DC Studios has given fans a positive update about the upcoming Swamp Thing movie. Even though the release schedule for DC Universe films has changed recently, the movie is still planned and in development. This news has been welcomed by fans who were starting to worry about the film’s future.

James Mangold is still invested in DC’s Swamp Thing movie

Despite James Mangold signing a new deal with Paramount Pictures, his upcoming Swamp Thing movie is still planned at DC Studios. DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn recently confirmed to Rolling Stone that Mangold remains committed to the project and his Paramount deal won’t interfere with it.

James Gunn was asked during an interview if James Mangold’s new deal with Paramount would affect his work on the *Swamp Thing* project. Gunn reassured everyone that it wouldn’t, stating simply, “No, it doesn’t.” He also confirmed the project is still progressing, adding that he’s spoken with Mangold and that Mangold remains committed. Gunn acknowledged that things can take time, and they’ll continue to monitor the situation.

As a huge film fan, I remember when James Mangold’s name first surfaced as potentially joining the new DC Universe back in early 2023, right after James Gunn unveiled the initial slate, ‘Gods and Monsters’. What’s exciting about Mangold is his range – he’s equally adept at critically acclaimed dramas like ‘Walk the Line’ and ‘Ford v Ferrari’ as he is at big, crowd-pleasing films like ‘Logan’. There was a lot of buzz that he was going to write and direct a ‘Swamp Thing’ movie, but it seems his commitments to other projects – namely ‘A Complete Unknown’ and ‘High Side’, which are part of his new deal with Paramount – have kept him from taking that on, at least for now.

DC Studios has experienced some delays and changes to its initial lineup of movies and TV series. But James Gunn has confirmed that the ‘Swamp Thing’ project is still moving forward and hasn’t been canceled.
