DC’s Green Lantern Series Release Date Possibly Delayed

DC Studios has shared the latest news about its upcoming Green Lantern series and how it fits into the broader DC Universe plan. There are suggestions the series’ release date might be changing, sparking discussion about when it will premiere alongside other planned projects.

Lanterns to get its release date after Supergirl movie

According to a recent report, the premiere of DC’s ‘Lanterns’ series has been delayed and will now air after the movie ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’. The latest news suggests that ‘Lanterns’, originally planned for early 2026, won’t be released until after ‘Supergirl’, as the ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 finale will be the last DC project from James Gunn’s team until then.

So, rumors were swirling about the release order of DC’s upcoming shows, and I did a little digging. I reached out to a writer at The Hollywood Reporter after seeing something on a podcast, and they confirmed it: Lantern is now slated to premiere after Supergirl. DCU Brief shared the news on X, pointing out that means we probably won’t see Lantern until sometime after June 2026. It’s a bit of a wait, but at least we have confirmation!

James Gunn, an executive producer on the upcoming DC series, has said that the shows Lanterns and Supergirl are expected to premiere around the same time. He outlined the initial slate as Creature Commandos, Superman, Peacemaker, Lanterns, and Supergirl in a previous interview with IGN. Gunn also described the series’ intended tone as realistic and believable, comparing it to the show True Detective, and highlighted the strong writing by Damon Lindelof, Chris Mundy, and Tom King.

The series features Aaron Pierre as John Stewart and Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan. The story centers around two Green Lanterns as they unravel a huge mystery that reaches across Earth and into outer space. Filming finished in early October. HBO is planning a big 2026 with several key premieres. The release date may have been adjusted to make room for other highly anticipated shows like the third season of Euphoria and Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

DC Studios’ next big live-action project in the new DC Universe will be Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, hitting theaters on June 26, 2026. The Lanterns series will follow shortly after.
