The world of Absolute Universe is gradually expanding. Early comics focused on building the environment around Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, and introduced characters who suggested the formation of a Justice League in this version of reality. Recently, one of these heroes appeared in Absolute Wonder Woman, but is now being positioned as a villain opposing the remaining Amazons.
Absolute Wonder Woman #12, written by Kelly Thompson and illustrated by Hayden Sherman, wraps up Wonder Woman’s journey through a complex labyrinth called The Maze. This Maze was located within Area 41, a facility once used to imprison people with superpowers and magical beings. Wonder Woman entered the facility hoping to find another Amazon, who sources said was being held captive there.

Wonder Woman not only saves the Amazon Io, but also liberates numerous other creatures held captive in the Maze. This angers Veronica Cale, the director of the government organization responsible for Area 41. As a result, Cale ventures into the most secure part of the dungeon, looking for someone she knows.
What Justice League member just appeared in the Absolute Universe?
Okay, so I just finished reading Absolute Wonder Woman #12, and the final page is a total shocker! It turns out Cale isn’t after our Wonder Woman at all – he’s gunning for the Zatanna of the Absolute Universe. And it’s brutal – she’s all tied up and gagged, kind of like Hannibal Lecter, clearly to stop her from using her magic. Apparently, Cale’s plan is to manipulate Zatanna and turn her against Wonder Woman, but this version of Wonder Woman is way more mystical and witch-like than a traditional warrior, which makes the whole situation even more interesting.

In the regular DC Universe, Zatanna is a very powerful magician, and it seems she’s equally strong in the Absolute Universe, judging by Cale’s belief she could battle Wonder Woman. However, Zatanna doesn’t seem to support Cale’s plans. Considering Wonder Woman’s tendency to befriend her opponents, it looks like this version of Zatanna won’t be fighting Wonder Woman for very long.
Absolute Wonder Woman #12 is now available at comic shops everywhere.
