DC Studios Reveals 1 DCU Project’s Release Is Further Away Than We Expected

As a movie critic, I can hardly contain my excitement for one of the highly anticipated films in James Gunn’s DCU – none other than “Teen Titans.” This cinematic adventure brings together some of the younger superheroes from the vast DC universe, with the screenplay penned by the talented Ana Nogueira, who has previously shown her skills with “Supergirl.”

Rumors have been swirling that Damian Wayne would take center stage in this youthful superpowered team. However, since its announcement last year, DC Studios has remained tight-lipped about any details regarding the film. But rest assured, I’ll be keeping a keen eye on any updates and sharing them with you as they come!

After Ana Nogueira was brought in by Gunn to work on the reboot of Wonder Woman, some began to ponder if she would be required to manage two separate superhero scripts. In other words, did Nogueira’s shift to Wonder Woman imply that she had concluded her work on Teen Titans, or was the team-up movie postponed so that she could devote her attention to DC Comics’ leading female superhero?

One supporter on the Threads platform inquired about James Gunn’s knowledge of Nogueira’s ‘Teen Titans’ script, to which he responded, “It doesn’t exist. She’s been working on Wonder Woman for a while.” This response implies that the Teen Titans project is not as imminent as fans had hoped.

Was Teen Titans Ever A Real Project?

It has been reported by The Hollywood Reporter since at least March 2024 that Teen Titans was indeed a genuine project, not just a disguise for Wonder Woman. Ana Nogueira had been associated with this project for quite some time. In February, Deadline also shared an update about the development of Nogueira’s Teen Titans script, which James Gunn and Peter Safran praised as “an amazing script.” However, it was clarified that the script was not yet complete.

Ana has been developing a passionate project – a script. She recently shared a remarkable draft with us, which she is currently refining. Clearly, it’s still a work in progress and not yet complete.

In response to the report about Threads, James Gunn firmly asserted that the script in question, penned by Ana Nogueira for Teen Titans, is non-existent, not that the entire Teen Titans project never materialized. He had requested Ana to shift her focus to [Wonder Woman] to complete it initially before she could continue working on Teen Titans.

Let me clarify, we hadn’t completed the script at that point. I requested Ana to work on the Wonder Woman scene initially and it seems like she did.

In a later statement, Gunn clarified that they hadn’t read the script for Nogueira’s “Teen Titans” when he initially said they hadn’t. Instead, the “amazing script” mentioned in the Deadline report was actually about Nogueira’s “Supergirl” script, which played a role in her being hired for “Teen Titans,” as well as other projects.

It’s possible that Nogueira has been focusing on the Wonder Woman script for some period, as there haven’t been any updates since the beginning of this year. This prolonged silence might imply that the Teen Titans project has been on hold for an equal length of time. Although Michael De Luca, co-chair and CEO of Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group, stated in May that “James and Peter are working on a live-action Teen Titans,” his comment was made under the assumption at that time, given that he is no longer directly associated with DC Studios.

It seems that both James and Peter are developing a live-action version of Teen Titans, as well as another installment titled ‘Teen Titans Go!’, which I believe is also accurate.

It’s unclear when exactly the production of Teen Titans was paused and for how long it will remain this way, but given its immense popularity, it seems unlikely that Gunn would keep it indefinitely on hold, particularly since Teen Titans Go! serves as their main animated series.

On the contrary, the delay might have turned out to be advantageous for “Teen Titans” fans, as Nogueira’s portrayal of Wonder Woman could potentially introduce one of the team’s original members – Donna Troy.
