A recently revealed Green Lantern logo has sparked speculation that a major Justice League villain might be coming to the DC Universe. While DC Studios is just beginning to build its interconnected story for TV and film, they’re already setting the stage for a larger franchise. The upcoming HBO Max series, *Lanterns*, which will debut next year, is expected to explore the more fantastical, space-oriented aspects of the DC superhero world.
DC fans believe a recent set photo might hint at the arrival of The Centre, a frightening, living island, in the DC Universe. The image, reportedly of a Green Lantern logo from the set of the *Lanterns* series, includes a prominent swirl in the middle, sparking speculation.
Josh Lucas from Den of Nerds shared a picture on X (formerly Twitter) of a hat with a logo on it. He mentioned that a Reddit user made a video suggesting the logo hinted at something called ‘The Centre,’ but Warner Bros. reportedly asked them to remove the video.
A fan noticed something in the upcoming DCU show ‘Lanterns’ that seemed to hint at a larger story element called ‘The Centre.’ Warner Bros. reportedly asked them to remove the video pointing this out.

This Green Lantern symbol is a bit different from the one seen on Superman’s Guy Gardner. It has a slightly wider circle and, most noticeably, features a swirl in the center.
In the popular Justice League story, *New Frontier*, the main antagonist is an entity called The Centre, which plays a key role alongside Green Lantern. The Centre is visually depicted as large swirling patterns in the story, particularly in the *New Frontier* animated movie, leading some fans to believe these swirls are a representation of the villain itself.

This isn’t the first time “The Centre” and the graphic novel *New Frontier* have been linked to *Lanterns* and the DC Universe. Back in April 2023, James Gunn, head of DC Studios, shared a picture of *New Frontier* – a post that originally came from comedian Paul Scheer.
Combined with talk that the *Lanterns* series will center around two heroes fighting what’s been called an “ancient horror,” fans are speculating this could bring a major villain into the DC Universe.
I’m so excited for *Lanterns*! It’s coming to HBO Max in 2026, and it’s going to follow John Stewart and Hal Jordan – played by Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler – as they team up to solve a mystery that starts right here on Earth, but quickly goes intergalactic. It sounds amazing!
Why The Centre Is a Perfect Villain For Chapter 1 of the DCU?

As a huge DC fan, I’m really excited about how James Gunn could kick off his new DCU with ‘The Centre’ and the ‘New Frontier’ storyline – it just feels right! And from what we’ve heard, the new Green Lantern series is going to be awesome, focusing on both Hal Jordan *and* John Stewart. It’s going to be great to see both versions of the hero!
When the story begins, Hal has been the Earth Lantern for quite some time, while John is just beginning his journey. The narrative suggests that John will ultimately succeed Hal, possibly becoming a future member of the Justice League.
This feels a lot like the Green Lantern storyline in *New Frontier*. It features Hal as a new, promising hero who masters his abilities during a battle with The Centre, a massive, island-sized enemy, and ultimately defeats it alongside the Justice League.
The climactic fight against The Centre sees Hal finally mastering his Green Lantern ring. He captures the villain and launches it into space, where it explodes safely away from Earth.
I’ve been thinking – what if this whole storyline is building towards John Stewart taking on the mantle Hal Jordan usually holds? It would be amazing to see him grow into the hero role and ultimately defeat The Centre, maybe even in a future *Lanterns* series or a *Justice League* project. I’d love to see that happen!
This might be a smart twist on established DC Comics storylines, and also a fresh take on a fan-favorite story.
