DC Officially Confirms Its Next Animated Universe Launching In 2026

DC Comics is building a brand new animated universe, set to debut in 2026, as they continue to grow beyond comic books. Superhero stories remain incredibly popular, and while Marvel and DC both have established interconnected movie universes, they’re also finding success with TV shows, both on traditional networks and streaming services. DC has already seen positive results with its DC Universe platform, launched in 2024.

After the DC Extended Universe ended, the DC Universe began as a reboot, but its timeline has been a little complicated. Films like The Batman and the series My Adventures with Superman aren’t connected to the main DC Universe; they’re considered separate “DC Elseworlds” stories. This allows those projects to exist independently, which has been a good thing, particularly for My Adventures with Superman.

My Adventures with Superman is a popular animated series that premiered on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim in 2023. It’s been critically acclaimed, currently boasting a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. With a third season on the way and the introduction of a new character, the show is now launching DC’s next era of animated storytelling, and fans are very enthusiastic about its potential.

My Adventures With Superman Season 3 Will Kickstart DC’s New Animated Universe

The animated series My Adventures with Superman follows Clark Kent and Lois Lane as they navigate their personal lives and blossoming romance. Clark is figuring out how to be Superman and understand his past, while Lois is building her career as a journalist. Together, with their friend Jimmy Olsen, they investigate important stories and fight crime.

The animated series My Adventures with Superman is getting a third season, launching on June 14th. This season will introduce Jessica Cruz, a character known as a Green Lantern. In the comics, she’s a member of the Green Lantern Corps and the Justice League, and she was the first human female to become a Green Lantern. Viewers may recognize her from previous appearances in DC Super Hero Girls and Teen Titans Go!

I’m so excited that Jessica Cruz is going to be in My Adventures with Superman! But get this – she’s actually getting her own spinoff show called My Adventures with Green Lantern! It’s going to take place in the same universe as the Superman show, and we’ll get to follow all of Jessica’s adventures as Green Lantern. We don’t know when it’s coming out yet, but we do know she’ll first appear in My Adventures with Superman in 2026. Seriously, this is awesome!

DC’s New Animated Universe Will Be Nothing Like The DCAU

This new animated series from DC is the first of its kind for television since the highly acclaimed DC Animated Universe, often called the “Timmverse” because of Bruce Timm’s significant creative role. The original DCAU started in 1993 with Batman: The Animated Series and concluded in 2006 with Justice League Unlimited. Bruce Timm was the showrunner for several key series within the DCAU, including Batman: The Animated Series, Superman: The Animated Series, The New Batman Adventures, and Batman Beyond.

The original DC Animated Universe (DCAU) was known for its dark tone and complex stories, and many of its shows are now considered classics. However, the new DC animated projects are heading in a completely different direction – and that’s a positive change. While the DCAU remains excellent, DC needs animated series that are lighter in tone and more enjoyable, allowing them to create a shared universe. My Adventures with Superman and its upcoming spinoffs are a fantastic way to begin this new approach.

It remains to be seen how the new DC animated series will develop beyond My Adventures with Green Lantern, and how well its shows will connect, but it’s already begun in a promising and engaging way.
