As a huge DC fan, I was bracing myself for some major character deaths in the recent ‘DC K.O.’ event – you kind of expect it when the whole plot revolves around a no-holds-barred, fight-to-the-death tournament. But honestly, I was floored when a really prominent DC character died, especially since they’re supposed to be immortal! It’s even more shocking because this happened right before they were set to appear in the new Supergirl movie. I just didn’t see that coming.
The unexpected death occurred in DC K.O. Wonder Woman vs. Lobo #1, created by Joëlle Jones, Jason Howard, Cary Nord, and Daniel Bayliss. The issue set up a compelling clash because Wonder Woman, unlike many in the Justice League, is willing to kill when necessary, though she usually prefers peaceful resolutions. Lobo, on the other hand, rarely looks for non-violent options as a bounty hunter.
Okay, so Lobo totally took the first round, but Wonder Woman came roaring back and won the second! The final fight, though? It was brutal. She had the power to defeat him, honestly, but Lobo is just… different. The guy literally wouldn’t stay down! It was like fighting someone who couldn’t be killed, and she just couldn’t win against that.
Lobo isn’t just incredibly durable thanks to his ability to heal from almost any injury – even regrowing from a single cell. He also has a unique deal with The Almighty Gawd. As shown in the ‘Lobo’s Back’ comic from 1994, even after dying and briefly ruling Hell before declaring war on Heaven, Lobo was permanently barred from the afterlife.
How does DC kill off the immortal Lobo?
Wonder Woman typically receives help from the Olympian gods, but this time, God himself stepped in to assist her. This happened after Lobo bragged about striking a deal with God.
Even simply misusing God’s name was enough to provoke a divine response. As a result, Lobo’s connection to a powerful ally was severed, allowing Wonder Woman to defeat and seemingly kill him. Despite this, most fans expect Lobo to reappear in comics before the 2026 Supergirl film.
