DC has announced that Jeffrey Wright will reprise his role as Jim Gordon in the DC universe before The Batman 2. While we haven’t seen Wright’s version of the famous Gotham City detective since his first appearance in 2022’s The Batman, fans have been eagerly requesting his return.
But before then, fans of DC will get another look at Jeffrey Wright as GCPD Lieutenant Gordon, thanks to a new Batman project from Warner Bros. and DC. The Batman director Matt Reeves has recently finished the script for The Batman-Part 2, which could kick off a fresh series of thrilling titles set in Reeves’ Batman world.
Recent gameplay footage (shown on IGN) from the just-announced LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight game confirmed that Jeffrey Wright will voice and play as Jim Gordon in the new LEGO adventure.

Gordon will be a playable ally character in the game, alongside established DC heroes like Nightwing, Robin, and Catwoman. Players will also be able to use a skin featuring the likeness of Wright as a customizable option.

He appears much like he did in The Batman film (and probably will in The Batman 2). He’s wearing a black suit, glasses, and has a prominent moustache above his lip.

Different from many previous LEGO games, Legacy of the Dark Knight features a brand new story. Instead of simply retelling the plot of one Batman movie or show, it creatively combines memorable scenes and characters from across all of Batman’s history – including films, TV series, and comic books.
This initiative features Wight’s Gordon, alongside Robert Pattinson as Batman and Colin Farrell as the Penguin.
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is scheduled for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC around 2026. This latest LEGO game, created by UK-based developer TT Games, is being touted as the definitive Batman experience, charting the hero’s journey from a hopeful crime fighter to the conclusion of his time as Batman.
The Future of Jeffrey Wright’s Jim Gordon Explained
Jeffrey Wright portraying Jim Gordon in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is a small taste of what’s to come for DC fans, who are excited to see how Matt Reeves will interpret the famous character next.
Seeing The Batman included in TT Games’ upcoming LEGO game will definitely be fun, but dedicated DC Comics enthusiasts are even more eager for The Batman 2, which is scheduled to be released in cinemas in 2027.
The next Batman film, starring Robert Pattinson, will naturally follow the Dark Knight as he continues his fight against crime in Gotham City. The story will also feature Jim Gordon, played by Wright, and his role in the ongoing battle.
The initial The Batman movie uniquely featured a younger Jim Gordon, portrayed as a simple detective within the Gotham City Police Department – a contrast to the established police commissioner often seen in other Batman stories.
It’s possible all of this is building towards Wright being promoted within the GCPD, ultimately becoming Commissioner Gordon instead of remaining a Lieutenant, and continuing to assist Batman in the process.
