As a dedicated fan who has witnessed the rise and fall of numerous television series, I must say that Eddie Redmayne’s portrayal of The Jackal in Sky Original’s “The Day of the Jackal” has left me utterly spellbound! Breaking records with a staggering 3 million viewers within its first week, this thriller has surpassed even the acclaimed “House of the Dragon” and “The Last of Us”.
The hitman series starring Eddie Redmayne, titled “The Day of the Jackal,” has broken records as the most-watched Sky Original yet, attracting a whopping 3 million viewers during its initial week.
The thriller series created by Ronan Bennett, known for “Top Boy,” has become Sky’s most successful new launch in over two years, outperforming “The Last of Us.” This HBO production, set in a post-apocalyptic world, attracted an audience of 2.63 million viewers within its first week.
In 2022, the initial release of ‘House of the Dragon’ outperformed ‘The Day of the Jackal’, garnering approximately 3.23 million viewers during its first week on air.

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that the screen adaptation of Frederick Forsyth’s 1971 political thriller novel, “The Day of the Jackal,” premiered its first five episodes on Sky in the UK on November 7. For my fellow enthusiasts across the pond, the series is now available on Peacock today (November 14).
In this series, Oscar-winning actor Redmayne assumes the character of a notorious hitman called The Jackal. On the other hand, Lashana Lynch from Captain Marvel takes on the role of Bianca, a British intelligence operative assigned to apprehend him. Additionally, Úrsula Corberó from Money Heist, Charles Dance and Richard Dormer from Game of Thrones, as well as Chukwudi Iwuji from Peacemaker, are also part of the cast.
Meghan Lyvers, the executive director of Sky UK and Ireland’s Original Scripted division, expressed her delight over the extraordinary worldwide acclaim that “The Day of the Jackal” has received.
The series has spellbound viewers with its fast-paced narrative, grand scale, and indelible portrayals by Eddie Redmayne, Lashana Lynch, and Úrsula Corberó. The fact that it has become Sky’s most successful Original production underscores the intense passion, commitment, and skillful craftsmanship that went into each scene.

Executive producers Gareth Neame and Nigel Marchant noted that the reaction to “The Day of the Jackal” surpassed all anticipations.
“We aimed to offer a new take on this classic tale, and it’s exciting to notice that both British viewers and global audiences have responded positively to it.
The fantastic work of Eddie Redmayne, Lashana Lynch, and the entire team behind the scenes made our achievement possible. This record-breaking success underscores the immense skill they brought to the project.
The Day of the Jackal airs on Sky Atlantic and streams on NOW. It’s available on Peacock in the US.
