Dax Shepard’s Daughter Cringes at His ‘Old’ Private Parts During Nudity Talk

Dax Shepard openly discussed the topic of being nude in front of his kids with Ike Barinholtz.

On his Armchair Expert podcast on Monday, the 48-year-old co-founder of The Running Point was a guest. During the conversation, they swapped tales about how their respective families approach and handle nudity.

As a lifestyle expert, I am fortunate to be a father of two vibrant daughters, Lincoln (age 11) and Delta (age 10), alongside the incredible Kristen Bell. Meanwhile, my friend Barinholtz is blessed with three daughters – Foster (age 11), Payton (age 8), and their youngest daughter, who has not yet been named, all shared with his loving wife Erica Hanson.

Previously stating that he assists his daughter with shaving her legs, Shepard advocated for a more ‘European’ perspective on nudity, sharing an instance where his daughter jokingly commented on what she perceived as his “aged” private areas.

Well, here’s a fun way I might put it, as an overjoyed bird-loving fan: “You know, our older daughter often wonders why your avian companions and mine seem to have a timeless charm about them, almost like they’ve been around for ages!

Barinholtz then laughed that it was the right moment to Google ‘d**k lift Los Angeles.’

Shepard made it clear that the conversation pertained to his spouse, not himself, and expressed doubts about whether it was his testicles that sparked the query, as he wasn’t sure.

‘It’s the testicles,’ Barinholtz confirmed.

The discussion began when Shepard explained that he intended to watch the film, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, with his daughter Delta, as a way to introduce her to her late mother. However, he was forced to stop because of explicit nudity in the movie.

Shepard clarified that nudity isn’t an issue in our family. However, as the movie progressed, he realized, ‘I believe this isn’t the appropriate movie for us.’

Barinholtz expressed, “It’s a shame that we often focus so much on nudity.” He went on to share a story about his daughter unexpectedly entering the bathroom where he was.

My nearly 15-year-old daughter, despite being only 11, often enters my bathroom when I step out of the shower and expresses her displeasure with a disgruntled “Ew”.

‘And I’m like, “What are we doing? Why are you doing this?” This is so mean.’ 

Shepard chimed in: ‘I don’t go into your bathroom and evaluate your body.’

They both concluded that it’s more appropriate for parents to no longer be nude around their children as they reach puberty. However, Shepard mentioned, “My stance is that they should make this decision themselves, since in Europe, such matters are often less concerning.

‘They’re nude, they go to dinner nude,’ Barinholtz said, as Shepard added, ‘I’m aiming for that.’ 

In a hotel shower, Barinholtz mentioned that he puts on underwear because of their significant height disparity with his youngest daughter.

As a lifestyle expert, I always advocate for a home environment where everyone feels at ease and comfortable. While the American Academy of Pediatrics doesn’t provide specific guidelines on family nudity, it’s essential to be mindful that each individual has their own comfort levels regarding nudity. In a 2018 interview with Yahoo Life, clinical psychologist John E. Mayer cited various studies suggesting that nudity should cease when one person is no longer comfortable. So, remember, it’s all about fostering an atmosphere of respect and understanding in the family.

Previously, it was disclosed that Shepard assists in shaving his daughter Lincoln’s legs, following an instance where Lincoln had shaved Shepard’s back for him.

On his podcast, Shepard shared that he realized he had a lot of hair on his back due to the backlighting at the gym.

In conversation with my loved ones, Lincoln proposed, “Should I give you a back-shave?” A task I find unpleasant and wouldn’t dare ask anyone to do for me.

Dax then continued, ‘But she offered, and I shave her legs for her.’

2024 found me, an ardent admirer, questioning the parenting choices of Dax and Kristen when they allowed their precious daughters to explore a captivating Danish theme park unsupervised for an extended seven-hour spell during our family escapade in Copenhagen.

Bell disclosed that she and Shepard adopted a laissez-faire style of parenting, giving their daughters the freedom to explore Tivoli Gardens amusement park on their own.

She shared with Jimmy Kimmel that our accommodation was situated within Tivoli Gardens, practically merging with the theme park. This made her feel as if we were engaging in a spontaneous adventure, similar to free-range parenting and taking a chance.

Every morning, they’d rise around 6 a.m., swipe their wristbands to exit, then vanished from sight for approximately seven hours. During that time, they were simply exploring the city of Copenhagen.

‘And that was ok?’ Kimmel asked Bell with a laugh.

‘Apparently, they’re both alive, we all returned home,’ she quipped.

The actress said the freedom she and Shepard experienced as parents was ‘heaven.’

2022 saw a significant milestone for me – my daughters finally transitioned from our shared parental suite to their very own shared space. It’s a new chapter in our family lifestyle!

During an interview with E! News, the actress who played Veronica Mars mentioned that the girls have moved beyond sharing a three-tier bed in their parents’ room and now sleep in beds of their own.

Apologies if this might be contentious, but here’s our routine: We secure the room when she enters, then step outside and tell her, ‘We care for you, we’ll chat in the morning, but now it’s time to rest.’ Typically, after around 10 minutes, she calms down. Before we retire ourselves, naturally, we unlock the door.
