Davinia Taylor, 47, reveals why she left the Primrose Hill party set behind as she shares simple lifestyle hacks that have given her a biological age of 20 despite battling alcoholism

She used to be famous for her wild social life, frequently seen at entertainment industry parties and part of a trendy group in Primrose Hill that included Kate Moss and Sadie Frost.

Despite previously leaving alcohol behind and withdrawing from public life, Davinia Taylor has reinvented herself as a wellness expert. She now shares advice and supplements with her large following, aiming to help them improve their health through biohacking.

She attributes her new lifestyle to biohacking – making small, well-planned changes to daily habits and behaviors, supported by science, to enhance things like mental sharpness and weight control.

Few people understand this topic as well as Davinia. Even though she previously mistreated her body for years, she’s remarkably transformed her life. Now, at 47 years old, she has a biological age of just 20

Significantly, she overcame her struggle with alcohol, and in 2009, she went to South Africa to attend a 12-week rehabilitation program.

Even though Davinia was happy she’d changed her life for the better, she maintained she wasn’t the wildest member of the Primrose Hill set, and that many of her friends still enjoy drinking. She emphasized that others still frequently indulge in alcohol.

In an interview with Daily Mail, she shared that she’s currently feeling healthier and more energetic than she did during her 20s. She explained: ‘I used to drink a lot, I was exhausted, and constantly had hangovers. I think a lot of people can relate to what it was like being in their 20s.She emphasized this was a common experience for many.

Look, everyone I knew was going out and drinking just as much, and honestly, my friends probably drank even *more* than I did. But they just didn’t happen to develop a problem with alcohol – they weren’t labeled an alcoholic, I guess.

She went on to explain: ‘They’re still caught between healthy and unhealthy habits, still feeling the effects of drinking on Mondays. That’s what’s meant by grey area drinking.’ She added, ‘I feel fortunate to have stopped drinking when I was 30.’

‘So my 20s were – everyone’s chaotic – but my 30s, 40s, 50s onwards, it’s been easy.’

Having given up partying, the mother of four is now focused on her business, WillPowders, which sells natural food supplements.

WillPowders has quickly become a popular and thriving brand, obtaining top-quality ingredients from all over the world.

They practice open sourcing, meaning they are fully transparent about where their products are made. For instance, their collagen is both manufactured and produced in Switzerland.

Davinia is the main person responsible for marketing at her company, and she guides the team in ensuring the ingredients are of outstanding quality.

She went to see the farmers who raise the cattle, filming them to demonstrate the company’s core values to its customers.

Oh my gosh, you will NOT believe this! Davinia is seriously amazing. She’s the *only* founder who actually goes to Switzerland to meet the farmers who raise the beef for our WillPowders! It’s incredible – she does it so *we* customers can see exactly what values WillPowders stands for. I mean, how dedicated is that?!

She explained that no founder would ever film at the awful, decaying fish farms or reveal what other creatures, like dolphins, are accidentally caught in the fishing nets.

Reflecting on what led to her decision to get sober, she shared: ‘I think it was having my first son. Being hungover while caring for a child is definitely not enjoyable. Being a parent is demanding and takes a lot of energy, and that’s something I just didn’t have at the time.’

She went on to say, ‘Alcohol is seriously harmful to the brain.’ It can leave you feeling down – and no one wants that. Looking back, after 20 years, you realize, ‘wow, that wasn’t a good idea.’

To help your body heal, give it the nutrients it needs. Remember, your body isn’t just aiming to survive, it wants to thrive.

If you provide the right elements, your body will naturally regulate itself. Simply fuel it with what humans have thrived on for generations-good quality meat, plenty of sunlight, restful sleep, and meaningful connections with loved ones. When you do that, your health will largely take care of itself.

Davinia isn’t the only member of the Primrose Hill set to swap partying for wellness.

Supermodel and friend Kate – who stopped drinking alcohol in 2018 – started her own wellness company, Cosmoss, in 2022. Sadly, the business wasn’t successful and closed down this summer.

Currently, fashion designer Sadie has adopted a healthy lifestyle and is frequently called ‘Britain’s Gwyneth Paltrow’ because she traded partying for waking up early to instruct yoga and Pilates classes.

Meg Mathews has also made significant improvements to her own health and now dedicates her time to educating others about menopause and women’s well-being. She wrote the book The New Hot: Taking on the Menopause with Attitude to share her insights and encourage a positive approach.

Actually, many celebrities have launched their own wellness brands. Examples include Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop, Kourtney Kardashian’s Poosh, and Elle McPherson’s Wellco.

However, Davinia – who dedicated years to studying biohacking before launching WillPowders – isn’t particularly enthusiastic about the recent surge of wellness brands promoted by celebrities.

She considered them ‘aspirational purchases.’ ‘I certainly wouldn’t spend 300 quid on a candle!’ she added.

I’m sure it’s nice, but everyone has different tastes. It’s really more of a treat, an indulgence, and a plan, if you think about it.

It’s completely your choice if you want to go that route, but I personally prioritize getting enough protein and enjoying good food – I’d prefer to save my money for a vacation rather than buying a candle!

Davinia follows a ketogenic diet – a way of eating that’s high in fats, low in carbohydrates, and includes a moderate amount of protein. This diet encourages the body to use fat as its primary source of energy, leading to a process called ketosis – a natural metabolic state.

She explained that once she began following a ketogenic diet and started using MCT oil to provide her brain with ketones, she experienced a significant improvement in cognitive function almost immediately – ‘the lights went on in a few minutes,’ she said.

Suddenly, I was amazed. I realized I was getting energy from glucose, which, for the past 20 years, had come from alcohol. I hadn’t known this type of fuel was possible, and no one had ever told me about it.

Davinia adds MCT oil to her meals. MCT oil is created from a specific kind of fat known as medium-chain triglycerides.

She referred to it as ‘the first GLP-1’, the active ingredient in weight loss medications like Ozempic and Mounjaro.

Davinia mentioned that she’s now learned to trust her own instincts and listen to what her body needs. This came after years of feeling misled by the advice of doctors and nutritionists – a situation she described as being ‘gaslighted’.

‘It’s like we’ve been discouraged from trusting our gut feelings,’ she explained. ‘Women possess a remarkably powerful intuition. After all, we bring new life into the world, and we have an intimate understanding of our own bodies that no one else can match!’

We were instructed to disregard those opinions and instead focus on research and evidence. However, that research seems to come from individuals who aren’t connected to me in any way.

Although she hasn’t personally tried weight loss injections, she shared that she’s okay with others using them if they truly need them. However, she did express worries about the potential side effects.

She has little time for celebrities using it to slim down for red carpet events, however.

‘We all understand their motivation,’ she thought aloud. ‘They’re aiming for increased clicks, likes, interaction, and a constant stream of content. It’s simply how their business operates, and it’s effective.’

Ugh, honestly, I just *know* they’re only doing this for the money. It’s so obvious! We’ve seen this pattern before, back in the 80s and 90s – it’s literally the same thing all over again. They don’t care about art or anything, they just want that shock factor to get people talking and, more importantly, spending! It’s so frustrating to watch, but sadly, predictable.

Even after making significant changes to how she lives, Davinia admits that putting her health first doesn’t feel automatic yet.

She admitted that she still needs to motivate herself to run each morning. However, she has a routine to help: she takes nootropics [supplements designed to improve brain function], has some MCT oil, puts on music, and essentially convinces herself to start. Once she begins, she finds she’s enjoying it within about 10 minutes.

I still have to motivate myself to focus on my wellbeing. It’s definitely not effortless. I really enjoy relaxing and watching TV, but I need to walk the dogs and also get to the office…

For me, the most effective way to get my thoughts flowing is to boost my dopamine levels. I do that by running, listening to music with a strong beat, taking certain supplements (nootropics), and then immediately getting to work. It’s all about momentum – just go, go, go.

‘But it’s still tough going. It still takes a push, it’s not easy peasy.’

However, Davinia still enjoys an occasional indulgence. She mentioned she was planning to order a Chinese takeaway to celebrate her son’s birthday.

The unhealthy food [from takeaways] contains things like MSG and sugars, which build up in the liver. It makes me feel like I’m hungover afterward!

However, I don’t want to refuse. It’s my son’s 10th birthday, and I really enjoy a Chinese takeaway – we all do!

Now, it doesn’t lead to overeating anymore. I can recover from cravings much faster, and I don’t experience that desperate need for more sweets, where you’re constantly trying to improve your mood with them.

I can easily get back into ketosis each morning. Because of this, my body has become metabolically flexible – I can switch between burning carbs and fat, and I’m better able to handle the occasional treat or takeaway without it derailing my progress.
