Davina McCall vows to fight complications as it’s revealed her shock brain surgery has caused short term memory loss
As a seasoned observer of public figures and their journeys, I must say that Davina McCall’s resilience is truly inspiring. Despite undergoing a major brain surgery less than two weeks ago, she managed to make a surprise appearance on I’m A Celeb, leaving the hosts Ant and Dec utterly stunned and thrilled.
Davina McCall has pledged to battle through difficulties as it came to light that the unexpected brain operation she underwent led to temporary memory loss.
The presenter, aged 57, recently had surgery to take out an exceptionally uncommon colloid cyst, which afflicts merely about three individuals per million.
On a heartfelt video posted on Monday, Davina became tearful while expressing gratitude towards her loved ones for their support. She also mentioned that she’s making progress in her recovery and is taking time to rest.
Nevertheless, the previous host of Big Brother disclosed that she encountered certain difficulties following the operation because the tumor was situated near the part of her brain that controls short-term memory.
In my recent video, I shared that my short-term memory has been slipping a bit, but rest assured, it’s an area I can focus on improving. Regardless, I’m keeping my spirits high and staying optimistic.
She remarked, ‘Although my short-term memory isn’t always reliable at the moment, I’m optimistic because it’s something I can improve.’
On her Begin Again podcast, prior to her surgery, Davina discussed the potential risks of cyst removal: ‘In regards to my short-term memory, they asked “How is it?” Given that I’m menopausal, it’s already not fantastic, so…!’
‘But what I do know is that if my short term memory is affected there are things I can do about that. I am a fighter and that is that.’
In a video message recorded while lying in bed, she shared with her fans: “Hey there! I wanted to take a moment to reach out and express my heartfelt appreciation to everyone who has reached out to me or touched base. Thank you so much!
‘It’s meant the world. It’s been mad and it’s just really nice to be back home. I’m on the other side. My short term memory’s a bit remiss but that is something that I can work on so I’m really happy about that.
I’m jotting down all the steps I take to feel secure, and Michael and my mom are doing an outstanding job taking care of me.
‘I’d quickly like to say big up the stepmums. I don’t really say thank you to Gabby enough. She’s been an amazing rock my whole life.’
She went on feelingly: “Yesterday, I conversed with someone, and mentioned I received a huge amount of vitamin G. Whenever something like this occurs, I can’t help but feel incredibly thankful. Gratitude has always been a part of me; I’ve truly been fortunate throughout my life.
I am incredibly thankful at this moment, so I want to express my gratitude to each one of you. I’m recovering, taking things easy, getting lots of rest and sleep, and I feel fantastic. Truly, I consider myself quite fortunate.
In the title, she wrote: “Hey!!… Thank you so much for the messages. They’ve made a significant impact on me. I just wanted to express my gratitude towards @mdlondon, who deserves the title of best boyfriend ever. This recognition comes not only from me but also from everyone who knows us.
In addition, the title of “Best Mom Ever” goes to @gabbamccall. Thanks, Mumma! You’re not only an incredible grandmother but also the best mom I could ever ask for.
I’m doing significantly better today. Enjoyed a fantastic night’s rest in my own bed. Had a few short naps throughout the day that kept my mind refreshed… taking things one step at a time… immense gratitude, and love for this world, my life, and all the wonderful individuals in it.
‘Thank you to all my friends. You are the best. Thank you to @clevelandclinic and my amazing neurosurgeon. Kevin. I love you. Thank you Sydney, sarah, and all the amazing beautiful souls that cared for me.
‘Get used to this. It’s going to be pouring out of me.’
Davina’s famous friends flooded the comments section to send their best wishes, and Olly Murs wrote: “So glad you’re home again, Davina! x Heart We all adore you!

Laura Whitmore said, “I’m sending you a big pile of affection, you amazing lady!” And Ashley Roberts replied, “I adore you so much, ❤️❤️❤️
This past week, Michael Douglas, Davina’s partner, shared a significant update on Instagram after her surgery, writing: “Here’s the latest news, folks. I want to express my deepest gratitude to everyone who has sent their well wishes.
In just the past day, she’s taken a massive step forward. Now, she’s been moved out of the Intensive Care Unit and is regaining consciousness. Thank you, xx Michael.

In other news about her recovery after surgery, Michael shared that the procedure went exactly as expected, and he expressed his heartfelt gratitude towards everyone who has shown their support.

‘She’s currently recovering in ICU as a precaution, as you can imagine she’s utterly exhausted.’

Davina explained that she received the diagnosis by chance after booking in for a ‘health scan’.
In a recent video, I shared my experience of undergoing a health scan that I believed I would excel in due to my healthy lifestyle. However, the results revealed an exceptionally uncommon benign brain tumor, approximately three in a million cases.
For a short period, I avoided facing certain issues by seeking advice from a few neurosurgeons. After hearing numerous opinions, I came to understand that I had been burying my head in the sand and needed to address these matters directly instead.
It’s rather large, measuring about 14 millimeters across. I need to get it taken care of since if it continues to grow, it could cause problems. I’ll be having it extracted.
She added: ‘Say a prayer for me. I’m in good spirits.’
Davina shared that even though she wasn’t facing an imminent danger, her doctors expressed worry that the tumor might expand further and potentially lead to various complications.
She shared that her emotions have been fluctuating, and clarified that she’ll likely stay in the hospital for at least nine days before returning home.
A colloid cyst is a slow-growing tumour typically found near the centre of the brain. The benign growth contains gelatinous material.
They are often asymptomatic and found incidentally during imaging tests.
If a tumor starts to expand, typical symptoms often include intense headaches, particularly when waking up in the morning, feelings of nausea, and problems with vision clarity. Other notable indications might be dizziness or double vision.
As a diligent caregiver, I frequently encounter individuals who primarily complain of headaches, but may also exhibit additional symptoms such as dizziness (vertigo), challenges in memory recall, or double vision.
If it’s substantial enough, a colloid cyst can block the flow of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) within the brain, potentially causing a significant risk of sudden, unexpected demise.
Davina’s spouse, Michael, posted the video on her behalf, writing as the caption: “Hi all, it’s Michael. Davina is going to be out of reach for some time while she undergoes brain surgery and recovers.
She’s looking fabulous and well taken care of. I’ll occasionally post updates on her behalf if anyone’s curious.
She’ll definitely go through all the comments once she can, so don’t hesitate to send her your affection. The strength of community support is truly remarkable. Wishing you all a wonderful day. Michael xxx.
The most recent update comes just after the star made a surprise appearance on I’m A Celeb on Saturday – less than two weeks after undergoing the surgery.
She left show hosts Ant and Dec both stunned and thrilled as she joined their Instagram Live following the main show.
Meanwhile, during her recuperation process, she messaged the pair with the note: “Hi all! I’m still around” followed by a smiley face with laughter, causing jubilation in the I’m A Celebrity studio, as reported by The Mirror.
Excitedly, Dec announced: “Davina McCall has arrived everyone!” Later on, Ant added his warm wishes: “I hope you’re doing well, sending you plenty of love from deep in the jungle.
In response to the crew’s cheers of “We love you, Davina!”, the former Big Brother host signaled her departure by posting a message saying she was signing off.
While Ant joked: ‘We were too much for her, we were too loud.’
