Davina McCall shares epic throwback snap from a New Year’s Eve party 30 years ago as she reflects on surviving life-threatening brain tumour in 2024
As a writer, I am deeply moved by Davina McCall’s incredible resilience and determination in the face of adversity. Her recent experience with a benign brain tumor, followed by her performance on The Masked Singer just days after surgery, is nothing short of inspiring. It’s amazing how she managed to juggle her health concerns with her passion for entertainment, and still delivered a stunning performance that left the judges speechless.
In my opinion, Davina has shown us that life can throw curveballs at us when we least expect it, but if we have the courage to face our challenges head-on, we can come out stronger on the other side. Her spirit and positive attitude are truly contagious, and I hope her story serves as a reminder to all of us to never give up, no matter what life throws our way.
And to top it off, she even managed to make the judges crack up with a well-timed joke! That’s the kind of grace under pressure that only comes from someone who has faced their fears and come out on top. Davina McCall, you are an inspiration to us all!
Davina McCall rang in 2025 by reflecting on her wild partying days.
The popular television personality, aged 57, posted a nostalgic flashback picture on Instagram to mark New Year’s Eve, revealing her activities from that very same night in 1993.
In my enthusiastic fandom, I can’t help but exclaim that the image revealed the presenter radiating elegance in a sleek, black ensemble, complete with perfectly styled, swept-back hair and a bold, crimson lipstick that made my heart flutter!
Later on, she divulged a saying by Paul C. Brunson that went like this: ‘Gather the strength to release your grip; The person you’re evolving into will be there to catch you.’
Reflecting on my harrowing journey with a life-threatening brain tumor, I can’t help but feel profound gratitude for the second chance at life that I have been given. Every day is a precious gift and serves as a constant reminder of the resilience within me that allowed me to overcome this obstacle. This experience has taught me to cherish each moment, to appreciate the people in my life, and to never take my health for granted. I am forever indebted to those who supported me during my darkest days, and I strive to pay it forward by inspiring others facing similar challenges. Life is a precious gift, and I intend to live every moment with purpose and passion.
The television host had to undergo surgery due to the discovery of a non-cancerous brain tumor, which only affects about 3 out of every million individuals by medical professionals.
In my fervent passion for health, I discovered a tumor during a complimentary health assessment at a private clinic. This unexpected opportunity presented itself following a captivating discussion on menopause that I had the privilege to attend.
After my miraculous surgery to eliminate that pesky growth, I couldn’t help but express what a precious and cherished blessing my life feels like now. It’s been on my mind quite a bit as I delve deeper into the creation of my brand-new Begin Again podcast, where I share inspiring stories just like mine.
On Monday, I took to Instagram to express my gratitude to my followers for their unwavering support of my recent project. In the video, I reflected on my personal health journey, confessing that I feel like I’m starting anew, or as if I’ve begun again.
She expressed: “It’s great to have you along on the Begin Again podcast. Recording this podcast has been a joy for me, and I’ve truly enjoyed getting to know everyone.
Reflecting on my podcast recording experience, I find it incredibly expansive, much like the scope of a vast ocean. The title ‘Begin Again’ resonates deeply with me, as it can encapsulate a multitude of meanings. For me, it symbolizes my recent life-altering journey, which was marked by a battle against a potentially life-threatening tumor. This experience has taught me the true essence of resilience and renewal, making ‘Begin Again’ more than just a title – it is a testament to the power of starting anew after overcoming adversity.
It seems as though I’m starting anew, albeit strangely so, perhaps due to the favorable result. It’s akin to receiving another shot at life. This sensation is extraordinary, almost like I’ve been bestowed with a precious gift.
Previously known as the host of Big Brother, she proceeded to explain how restarting can be relevant to others in various scenarios. This included instances like a significant crisis, job loss, divorce, or an unfortunate accident.
Davina mentioned that she’ll be available to assist individuals who seem stuck in their lives or simply require a bit of motivation, as she shared her aspirations and visions for the podcast’s upcoming phases.
Following some thoughtful contemplation, she summed up by saying: “Christmas has been difficult for me in the past, but not anymore. This suggests that fresh starts are always on the horizon… forever.
‘I think I’m gonna be a nightmare next year – I’ve gone very self-reflective!’
Previously, it was shared that Davina got her diagnosis unexpectedly when she scheduled a routine check-up or health examination.
In the video, Davina shared that she received an offer for a health scan, which she believed she would excel at. However, the results revealed a benign brain tumor, an extremely rare occurrence, happening only once in three million cases.
For a brief period, I chose not to fully confront an issue by seeking advice from several neurologists, gathering various perspectives, and eventually came to understand that avoiding the situation was not the best course of action.
This item is rather large, measuring about 14 millimeters across. It requires extraction as its further growth could become problematic. I plan to have it taken out.
She added: ‘Say a prayer for me. I’m in good spirits.’
Davina shared that although she wasn’t facing an imminent threat, her doctors were worried the tumor might expand and lead to potential problems.
She admitted that her emotions had been fluctuating, and shared that she would need to stay in the hospital for a minimum of nine days before returning home.
A colloid cyst refers to a slowly expanding mass that usually resides close to the core of the brain, filled with jelly-like substances. These non-cancerous growths frequently show no symptoms and may be discovered accidentally during diagnostic scans.
Should symptoms appear as the tumor expands, they’re often described as occurring mainly in the early hours of the day (like intense morning headaches), accompanied by feelings of nausea, and vision problems such as blurriness. Other significant indicators may include sensations of dizziness (vertigo) and double vision.
Many patients typically experience headaches, but other symptoms such as dizziness (vertigo), memory difficulties, or double vision may also appear.
In larger sizes, a colloid cyst can block the flow of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) within the brain, potentially causing a significant risk of sudden, unexpected demise.
Following her recent departure, Davina revealed her identity as Star on The Masked Singer just a few days ago, leaving viewers utterly stunned. This surprising revelation took place during the Christmas Special episode that aired on Thursday, following Davina’s brain surgery.
In a clear indication of her skill development, the presenter – known for judging six seasons of the popular show – found herself in the runner-up position following her performance of two holiday classics, “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” and “This Christmas.
Davina appeared exceptionally upbeat upon her return to television following brain surgery to excise a uncommon, non-cancerous growth.
On this occasion, the regular panelists – Jonathon Ross (age 64) and Mo Gilligan (age 36) – were taken aback when special judges Jennifer Saunders (age 66) and Dawn French (age 67) joined them.
Jonathan stated: “We truly didn’t expect you to sing so beautifully. It’s wonderful that you’re alright, but in my eyes, you’ve outdone yourself and appear as if you’ve transformed into a different singer.
Joel added: ‘I said you had diarrhoea and couldn’t be here’.
Davina replied: ‘I thought you might get me with the DVD one. It has been a ball, thank you!’
