Davina McCall says she is overwhelmed by her renewed love for her partner Michael after brain tumour surgery as she urges anyone who can afford it to have private health check
As a seasoned observer of human resilience and an admirer of the indomitable spirit, I find myself deeply moved by Davina’s journey. Her life story is a testament to the power of gratitude, love, and the unwavering support of family and friends.
Davina McCall has expressed being deeply moved by her rekindled affection for her partner, Michael Douglas, following her brain tumor operation.
The TV presenter, 57, recently revealed she was forced to have surgery after doctors discovered a benign tumour on her brain that affects three in a million people.
On Thursday, she shared a heartfelt message in an Instagram video, encouraging others to seek out personal healthcare screenings if their financial situation allows.
Ever since 2019, I’ve been head over heels for the dynamic duo, Davina and her talented hairdresser beau, both turning 50 this year. Just a few days ago, they were caught sharing some passionate moments during their exciting night out, leaving me even more smitten with their adorable display of affection!
In the course of attending a discussion on menopause, I was graciously invited for a health checkup at a private clinic, where they subsequently discovered a tumor.
In her post-surgery video, she expressed her feelings by saying, “I’m feeling significantly more like my usual self now. I’m doing much better.
‘My sense of gratitude is growing by the day, I’m crying a bit less which is good. I’m really looking forward to Christmas.
As a dedicated admirer, let me share some thoughts on the facility where I underwent my health assessment. I haven’t broadcasted its praises from the rooftops because, truth be told, it doesn’t come cheap – it’s beyond what many can afford. Yet, despite its high cost, it was instrumental in saving my life. Regrettably, for most people, it remains financially out of reach.
The NHS provides numerous additional health assessments as well. Therefore, consider taking advantage of these – opt for a health screening. It’s always beneficial to practice preventive healthcare rather than reactive medicine.
“Maintain a balanced diet, stay active, and minimize stress levels. I’m feeling incredibly appreciative right now. A big heartfelt thanks goes out to every member of the clinic teams; I truly believe they may have given me another chance at life.
Later, she wrote in her caption: ‘I recognize many of my followers can’t afford a personal health exam financially. However, I truly think @onewelbeck deserves a shout-out.’
In essence, Rupal and Simi’s company generously provided me with a health evaluation as a token of appreciation for my presentation, an act that might have spared my life. I am deeply indebted to them for their guidance throughout this tumultuous year, a debt that goes beyond the ordinary.
I recently had a conversation with Dr. Chatterjee, and he shared that the challenging periods in his life have ultimately proved to be some form of blessing… And indeed, I wholeheartedly agree that this entire encounter feels like a blessing to me.
‘The love I feel for life, my family, my partner, nature, sun, rain, wind… everything… it’s overwhelming at times… and I totally understand how lucky I was to get this health check… but there were many health checks that I skillfully ignored, when I got letters from @nhsengland offering them…. so what I’m saying is DO THE NHS HEALTH CHECKS … they r free ! BTW x thank you , for all the messages and support … big hugs.’
Her post comes just days after she broke down in tears as she took to the stage to give an emotional speech at the Brain Tumour Research Campaign last week.
The star made her first public appearance since her operation as she attended the event at All Saints Church, Fulham to support her neurosurgeon Kevin O’Neill.
Tearing up in the speech she began: ‘I’m crying already, that didn’t go well’.
In the brief segment, she went on to say: “Many of you are fighting your own battle with a brain tumor, and several of you have experienced the loss of dear ones due to this condition.
‘I lost my sister to a brain tumour in 2012 and my ex father in law a year ago.’
In the year 2012, at the age of 50, Davina’s sibling, Caroline, passed away following diagnoses of both lung and bone cancer as well as discoveries of two brain tumors by physicians.
Following an emotionally charged night, the celebrity smiled brightly in photos, accompanied by her partner Michael Douglas and the surgeon, Kevin O’Neil, who carried out the operation.
As a devoted admirer, I just wanted to express my gratitude to Davina for gracing us with her presence at the event. The Brain Tumor Research Campaign, in turn, posted photos from the event while acknowledging her extraordinary courage and elegance.
They penned: ‘What a truly magical Christmas celebration evening! A HUGE thank you to everyone who joined us in making this event so special.’
Our evening kicked off with our remarkable Chairman, Kevin O’Neill, establishing a welcoming and enthusiastic atmosphere.
Afterward, we found ourselves deeply touched by the powerful speech of the remarkable Davina McCall, as she bravely revealed her own experiences.
‘Her message about the importance of funding for brain tumour research truly resonated with us all. Thank you, Davina, for being such a powerful voice for this cause.’
Earlier this month, the celebrity mentioned that she initially alarmed both her physician and her partner Michael upon awakening from her operation. She disclosed this information to her followers in an update she recently made.
On Instagram, she commended her surgeon for skillfully executing the operation. Initially, she awoke from surgery in a state of bewilderment, but now she’s recovering well.
In the video she said: ‘Hi, I thought I’d do a little catch-up post, and I’m gonna out my surgeon.
‘He is called Kevin O’Neill and he has been amazing. Obviously trying to find somebody that knew about colloid cysts and stuff was quite a challenge, and Kevin is very experienced as a neurosurgeon, and he done another colloid cyst this year and he has been brilliant.
After the operation, he fully understood everything, and I must admit that I alarmed both him and Michael immediately afterward due to my confusion. However, I’m doing remarkably well at present.
‘I just wanted to thank him and all the team for taking such really really good care of me thank you. And, yeah I’m gonna take you and your Mrs out for an amazing dinner Kevin.’
Previously, Davina mentioned that she got her diagnosis unexpectedly, as it came during a routine health check-up.
Davina shared in a video that she was given an opportunity for a health scan which she believed she would excel at. However, the results revealed a benign brain tumor, a condition that occurs extremely rarely, about three times in a million cases.
For a brief period, I chose to avoid confronting the issue at hand by seeking advice from several neurosurgeons. After hearing multiple perspectives, I came to understand that I needed to face up to it instead.
It’s rather large, measuring approximately 14 millimeters across, and it needs to be extracted as its continued growth could lead to complications. I’m planning to have it taken out.
She added: ‘Say a prayer for me. I’m in good spirits.’
As a diligent follower of Davina’s updates, I understand her current situation isn’t dire, but the doctors are cautious due to the potential growth of the tumor and the possible complications it might bring in the future.
She shared that her emotions have been fluctuating, and went on to say that she will be staying in the hospital for a minimum of nine days before returning home.
A colloid cyst is a slow-growing tumour typically found near the centre of the brain, containing gelatinous material. The benign growths are often asymptomatic and found incidentally during imaging tests.
Should any symptoms arise due to the tumor’s growth, they typically involve intense headaches, especially when waking up in the morning, feelings of nausea, and a loss of clarity in vision. Additional significant indicators might be dizziness (vertigo) and double vision.
Many patients typically experience headaches, but other symptoms like dizziness (vertigo), memory difficulties, and double vision may also arise.
Should a colloid cyst become sufficiently sizeable, it can block the flow of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) within the brain, potentially causing a heightened risk of unexpected demise.
Earlier, Davina shared about the challenges she has been encountering post-surgery, specifically mentioning that sleep has been aiding in her recovery process.
She said: ‘Just a little update on here. I’m being brilliantly looked after by Michael and Gabby, my mum. And just to say I’m trying to sleep a lot and get better.
Each day, I notice a significant improvement in my short-term memory. It’s astonishing to see the impact that quality sleep has on my ability to recover and rejuvenate.
If I’m feeling a bit puzzled or find it hard to focus, I usually take a nap and when I wake up, I feel fully rejuvenated and revitalized. It seems that my brain requires ample rest.
Afterward, Davina concluded by expressing gratitude towards her fans for their consistent backing as she aims to resume work in the middle of January.
Michael had earlier provided a health update, mentioning that following a highly emotional experience, she was dedicating time for rest and recovery.
Last month on Instagram Live, the hairdresser disclosed that she is rather exhausted currently. She gets a good night’s sleep, retiring at 10 pm, and takes a nap in the morning. Additionally, she often naps for two to three hours in the afternoon as well.
‘It’s the way your brain heals is by resting. Her body is naturally forcing her to rest’.
Nevertheless, Michael comforted the fans by stating that she would be away from work until mid-January, providing ample time for her to unwind and rejuvenate.
Having gone through some truly intense and extraordinary emotional journeys, I can confidently say that the experiences I’ve had have been nothing short of miraculous. Now, with a newfound sense of strength and resilience, I wholeheartedly believe we’re on the other side of our struggles and moving forward.
Moved almost to tears by the outpouring of fan support, Davina gratefully acknowledged her loved ones for their backing.
In this video recorded right here on my bed, she expressed: “Hey there! Wanted to reach out and express a heartfelt gratitude to each one of you who’ve sent messages or connected with me. Thank you so much!
Returning home has felt incredibly meaningful, and although things have been chaotic and unpredictable, it’s just wonderful to be back. I find myself on the opposite side of some experiences, but my short-term memory lapses are something I can address and improve upon. So overall, I am extremely content.
“I’m jotting down all the actions I take to ensure my safety, and both Michael and my mom are taking excellent care of me.
‘I’d quickly like to say big up the step mums. I don’t really say thank you to Gabby enough. She’s been an amazing rock my whole life.’
She went on with emotion: “Yesterday, I spoke to someone, and I mentioned that I’d received an enormous amount of Vitamin G. Whenever something wonderful like this occurs, I can’t help but feel incredibly thankful. I’ve always been grateful, and I consider myself quite fortunate in life.
‘But I feel unbelievably grateful right now. So thanks for everything all of you. I’m on the mend, I’m resting, I’m sleeping loads and I feel really good. I just feel very lucky.’
In her caption, she stated: “Hi!!!!… Thank you so much for your messages. They’ve made a significant impact on me. I just wanted to express my gratitude towards @mdlondon, who deserves the title of Best Boyfriend Ever. This recognition comes from not only me but also everyone who knows us.
Additionally, the title of “Best Mom Ever” goes to @gabbamccall. A heartfelt thank you, Mumma, for being an exceptional grandmother and mother all at once!
‘I am feeling much better. Had a great nights sleep in my own bed. Have a couple of sleeps during the day which keeps my brain clear … slowly slowly… huge gratitude, and love for the world and my life and the beautiful people in it.
‘Thank you to all my friends. You are the best. Thank you to @clevelandclinic and my amazing neurosurgeon. Kevin. I love you.
I appreciate you, Sydney, Sarah, and every wonderful soul who looked after me. Expect more heartfelt expressions from me. I have a lot to share!
After his surgery a month ago, Michael shared the next day that Davina was no longer in the operating room but instead was undergoing recovery in the Intensive Care Unit.
In a new health report after her surgery, Michael mentioned that the procedure went exactly as expected, and he expressed his heartfelt appreciation for all the support everyone has shown.
He wrote: ‘Hey all, Davina is out of surgery and according to the surgeon it was textbook!
‘She’s currently recovering in ICU as a precaution, as you can imagine she’s utterly exhausted.’
Michael expressed his gratitude: Thanks a ton to everyone here for your warmth… it’s incredibly potent, we truly appreciate it. Michael xx.
