Davina McCall reveals she created ‘end of life checklist’ before major brain surgery for rare tumour as she admits ‘I’m not afraid of dying anymore’

Davina McCall shared that she prepared an ‘end-of-life plan’ prior to undergoing significant brain surgery last year, due to a non-cancerous brain tumor.

As an ardent admirer, let me share a personal update from our beloved TV host, who recently turned 57. In the chilly month of November, he revealed to us, his cherished fans, a rather unusual health challenge: a ‘rare’ colloid cyst. This particular type is so elusive that it affects merely three million individuals worldwide – making it an exceptional finding indeed!

Later, she had surgery after doctors removed a cyst from the well-known Big Brother host that had the potential to create issues if it continued to expand, given medical concerns.

Davina has now revealed the steps she took before the surgery – as her mindset drastically shifted.

At the Happy Place Festival, when speaking with Fearne Cotton, she shared that her thoughts turned into a detailed investigation, worrying about her three children and their individual life circumstances.

In simpler terms, she expressed her concern was primarily for her children’s well-being should anything happen to her. She was confident that her partner, Michael, could handle things on his own due to his independence, but she felt anxious about the children’s welfare.

Davina admitted she knew her kids ‘would be fine’ and if the worst happened, ‘they would miss me’.

Openly expressing herself, she said, ‘I had a sense of security knowing everyone was there to assist during my surgery. I could relinquish control over the result, and that peace was the most precious gift I received.’

Since 2019, Davina has been in a relationship with her longtime hairdresser, Michael Douglas. This change comes after her divorce from Matthew Robertson, which ended their 17-year partnership.

She shares 23-year-old Holly, Tilly, 21, and Chester, 18, with her ex-husband.

Ultimately, I found comfort knowing that my cherished ones would carry on without me when I finally revealed my survival plan.

She found that she no longer feared death. She considered it to be the most significant journey of her life, an incredibly memorable experience.

‘Over the years, I’ve experienced an incredible life odyssey filled with difficulties. It’s been tough, but these challenges have been invaluable learning experiences for me. Now, when something challenging arises, I believe it’s a positive development.’

Davina proudly shares that her balanced diet and consistent workouts enable her to stay fit, not just physically but also mentally.

In a recent Comic Relief appearance, Davina emotionally shared with the audience about her brain operation she underwent.

She expressively reflected: ‘Contemplating the risks and benefits of surgically removing the tumor led me to ponder profoundly on the essence of life and what truly matters when faced with hardship.’

I relied on the expertise and abilities of many individuals to help me recover. Not only that, but the love, support, and encouragement from friends, family, and especially my dear Michael were essential in helping me persevere.

Simultaneously, within this very month, the presenter shared insights about her challenging childhood and struggles with addiction. Consequently, her family felt compelled to intervene due to these issues.

In her teenage years, she started using cocaine alongside alcohol and cigarettes. As she grew older, by the age of twenty, she had progressed to taking heroin.

Under the guidance of her grandmother, Davina’s loved ones organized an intervention, which resulted in a significant change for Davina. She subsequently started participating in Narcotics Anonymous meetings.

Reflecting on her past, Davina admitted to Closer magazine that after getting clean, she felt intense self-loathing. She confessed that this loathing was profound, and in moments of weakness, she did things she had vowed never to do. Ultimately, she acknowledged that these actions resulted in personal and collective disappointment for herself and others.
