Davina McCall breaks her silence on her engagement to Michael Douglas and admits she almost ruined his romantic proposal

Davina McCall has publicly confirmed her engagement to hairstylist Michael Douglas, after he proposed to her while they were on vacation in Ibiza.

The 57-year-old TV star shared the story of her clifftop proposal while on Chris Evans’ Virgin Radio Show on Tuesday, but confessed she was in a bad mood at the time and nearly spoiled the special moment.

She found it amusing that Michael had booked a beachside lunch after their initial meal – something they didn’t normally do. It was the same beach they’d visited with the children previously.

I thought it was lovely when he suggested we take a walk around the cliffs, but she was really angry because of the clothes she was wearing.

Davina chuckled, realizing she was wearing ridiculous little pink cowboy boots with steel toes – definitely not the right gear for climbing! She could tell he was eager for her approval and wanted to see her enjoy it, which would have made him pleased.

I remember thinking, ‘How sweet,’ like he was going to show me something lovely. So I told myself to stop feeling sorry for myself and climb the hill.

Davina shared that Michael told her something sweet – a private moment she’s choosing to keep just between them – before he proposed.

The former Big Brother host shared that before the grand proposal, her partner had playfully teased her for months about marriage. He would jokingly get down on one knee, then pretend to tie his shoelace instead.

I kept thinking, ‘Oh my goodness, is he going to propose?’ But then he’d playfully pretend to tie his shoe. After it happened four or five times, it just turned into a running joke.

Davina and Michael had been friends for many years before they started dating. This happened after her divorce from Matthew Robertson was finalized in April 2018.

The couple started dating publicly in 2018, and by January 2023, Michael had moved in with his partner.

As a lifestyle expert, I’m hearing from friends that Davina is engaged! Apparently, she *is* sporting a ring, but she’s keeping it under wraps for now, only wearing it privately. It seems she’s enjoying the moment before making a public announcement.

Davina recently revealed she worried about her relationship with Michael after undergoing brain surgery, becoming emotional as she discussed how the experience made her doubt his feelings for her.

Last November, she shared with her fans that doctors found a very unusual cyst – a colloid cyst – which only affects about three people in a million.

Davina had surgery to remove a cyst, as doctors were concerned it could become a serious health issue if left to grow.

Davina completely recovered, but she recently revealed she worried about whether her fiancé, Michael, still wanted to be with her after her surgery.

Davina McCall revealed on the Happy Mum Happy Baby podcast that she still gets emotional when talking about her tumor, often crying while she discusses it.

She spoke with a lot of emotion, explaining that Michael, who she usually spent the most time with, never seemed bothered by being with her. However, she said he occasionally mentioned she would ask him the same question repeatedly, sometimes up to seven times in just half an hour.

He needed to step away for a moment, but I was able to stay. It was strange, because this wasn’t how things usually were for us. Everything felt off.

‘I had long-term memory. I could remember… and I thought, “Oh, he doesn’t want to be with me.”

Eventually, we talked it over, and he assured me he loved me and definitely wanted to be together.

He told me I was being a little annoying, and honestly, I was so relieved I started laughing. It was good to know things weren’t permanent and would eventually improve.

Davina explained that despite everything, she felt her true self was still present. She often desperately wanted to reach out and say, ‘Please don’t forget me! I’m here, fighting to reconnect, even though I don’t know how. Just be patient, and I promise this difficult phase won’t last forever.’

Davina explained that she wasn’t prepared for how challenging the six months following her surgery would be, especially regarding her memory loss.

I felt prepared for the surgery itself and the time leading up to it, and I was confident about recovering quickly. However, things didn’t return to how they were before, and recovery took much longer than I expected.

She explained that she hadn’t realized what the doctor meant when they said his short-term memory might be impacted. She simply didn’t understand how that would affect him.

I was worried I’d forget what I just did, but I didn’t realize my memory was so poor.
