David Woiwod to replace Matt Doran on Sunrise

As a long-time follower and admirer of Channel Seven’s dynamic lineup, I am thrilled to witness David Woiwod’s return to the Sunrise family. With his engaging personality and knack for cheeky banter, he has always been a favorite among viewers, and I have no doubt that he will seamlessly slot into the role vacated by Matt Doran.

7mate television personality, David Woiwod, is stepping in for Matt Doran on Weekend Sunrise starting right away. The network aims to familiarize viewers with their revised hosting team during the summer low-rating season.

At about 8 am on Thursday, Sunrise hosts Nat Barr and Matt Shirvington warmly greeted Woiwod onto their morning television team during their live broadcast. It was announced earlier that Woiwod would be working alongside co-host Monique Wright on the show’s couch.

Without delay, Seven’s executives swiftly appointed a replacement following Doran’s last appearance on the show this past Sunday.

From this weekend, our foreign correspondent based in Los Angeles, Woiwod, will be returning to our Sydney headquarters as he’s been promptly summoned to assume his new role there.

Over the summer, there’s been talk that some popular network personalities, such as myself along with Michael Usher and Sam Mac, might get a chance to put our mark on the position by temporarily taking on the responsibilities.

As a lifestyle expert, I can share that, based on my insights, the network was eager to make a swift change to ensure viewers would recognize Doran’s successor ahead of the start of the official ratings period, which falls on Sunday, February 9 of next year.

The action involves Woiwod going back to his original Sunrise base, given that he spent four years working as a reporter on the show following his association with Seven since 2016.

In July 2020, he relocated to Los Angeles to take on the role of the network’s U.S. correspondent. Last April, he was advanced to the position of U.S. Bureau Chief.

Woiwod has developed a reputation for his engaging personality and cheeky banter when reporting.

2020 saw Woiwod embarrassingly stumble over the pronunciation of US actress Ellen DeGeneres during his Sunrise appearance, instead referring to her as ‘Allan’.

Approximately three weeks ago, Doran announced the end of his five-year stint on Weekend Sunrise following a surprising decision he made.

Star of the Seven variety, who has shared his battles with depression on The Morning Show lately, mentioned that he’ll be dedicating time for his loved ones and exploring new chances.

‘Before we go today, a bit of breaking news from the Doran household,’ he said. 

“I have a significant announcement to make – I’ve made a decision together with my wife Kendall and our pet Italian greyhound Murphy, which is that after five years working at Weekend Sunrise, I plan to leave at the end of this year.

I’ve given this a lot of thought because it’s truly rewarding to acknowledge that this might be one of the most wonderful jobs out there. However, we believe it’s the perfect moment for us as a small family to make this decision.

Although I find myself feeling quite melancholic at this moment, I’m making an effort not to avoid looking Monique directly in the eyes. In truth, I’m currently filled with profound gratitude for the laughter shared, the valuable lessons learned, and the tears shed together.

I firmly believe that having the responsibility to narrate the most private, deeply personal tales of individuals is among the most honored roles globally.
