David Tennant’s ‘Rivals’ Gets Exciting Update: More Episodes for Season 2!

Exciting news for enthusiasts of the hit black comedy series, ‘Rivals’! Production on its second season is underway, promising an expanded episode count.

It has been reported that the show “Rivals,” featuring Tennant, Aidan Turner, and Danny Dyer, now boasts a 12-episode run, an increase from its initial eight episodes in the first season. This British series is exclusively available on Disney+, airing in the UK, while it streams in the US. According to Disney+, the first season of “Rivals” has been their most successful general entertainment premiere in the UK so far.

Dominic Treadwell-Collins and Alexander Lamb expressed their enthusiasm: “We’re thrilled to be back in Rutshire for a twelve-episode stay during season two of Rivals!” They added, “It’s unique to have the same cast and crew return, both on and off set, and we can’t wait to delve deeper into Jilly’s universe and share it with our viewers.

The show titled “Corinium” was debuted on October 18, 2024, and within a few months, it secured a renewal for a second season in December. This series is set in the year 1986 and primarily focuses on British nobleman Rupert Campbell-Black (Alex Hassell) and Tony, Lord Baddingham (Tennant), who are rivals engaged in a fierce competition within the dynamic world of Baddingham’s Corinium independent commercial television station.

The series titled “Rivals” is inspired by Jilly Cooper’s 1988 novel of the same name, with Season 2 planned to continue from where the novel ends. The upcoming season will explore how careers, relationships, and reputations are at stake as personal and professional lives intertwine in a world where secrets can’t remain hidden for long. This is hinted in the new season’s trailer. Furthermore, it has been announced that the original cast members, including Tennant, Turner, Dyer, Katherine Parkinson, Hassell, Nafessa Williams, and Bella Maclean, will reprise their roles in upcoming episodes.

Rivals Remains a Solid Streaming Hit for Disney+ & Hulu

Viewers of David Tennant’s show “Rivals” have been given a treat with additional episodes in its second season. The series has garnered significant attention on streaming services, thanks to robust viewership. In fact, soon after its debut last year, “Rivals” made it into the Top 10 Shows Currently Streaming across all platforms, holding its own against tough competition such as “Agatha All Along”, a popular show from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The competition has been well-received by critics too. In fact, on Rotten Tomatoes, its first season boasts an impressive 95% approval rating and 90% of viewers finding it enjoyable. Moreover, the show has garnered several awards, with Tennant being nominated for a BAFTA in the Leading Actor category due to his performance in the series. Additionally, Parkinson has also been acknowledged for her supporting role with a nomination as well.
