David Tennant’s new hit show has streaming future addressed

As a devoted fan of British television and an avid reader of Jilly Cooper novels, I am absolutely thrilled at the prospect of a second season for Disney+’s Rivals! The 80s-set series has captured my heart with its steamy drama, stellar cast, and captivating storyline.

Disney+ has hinted that Rivals could be set for a season 2 renewal.

This month, a ’80s television series adapted from the Jilly Cooper novel with the same title debuted on our streaming service, boasting an impressive ensemble cast that includes David Tennant, known for his role in “Doctor Who,” and Aidan Turner, famously seen in “Poldark” and “Being Human.

In a new interview with The Times, the senior vice-president of original content for Europe and Africa at Disney+ discussed the show’s success to date and hinted about what the future holds.

According to Liam Keelan, it’s hard to imagine someone who hasn’t heard of Rivals given its widespread popularity. People can’t stop discussing it, and he claims he’s never experienced anything quite like it before.

He also mentions that the show has only been on the platform for slightly over a week, asking for some patience, but with hopes of sharing more updates soon. To clarify, he expresses his affection for the program.

In October, the highly anticipated television series was released in its entirety, and it immediately gained rave reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, earning a 93% fresh rating.

The series titled “Rivals” chronicles the journey of Declan O’Hara, an Irish TV presenter portrayed by Turner, along with his family, as they relocate from bustling London to the charming countryside of Rutshire, a fictional district in the Cotswolds region.

O’Hara is moving from the BBC to commercial television station Corinium, which is led by Lord Tony Baddingham (Tennant). There, he will be paired with the stylish American TV producer Cameron Cook (Nafessa Williams) for a new position.

In the series, a tough yet gifted producer first clashed, but it’s the competitive spirit between Baddingham and the ex-show-jumping champion-turned-politician Rupert Campbell-Black (played by Alex Hassell) that takes center stage.

As a gamer, I’m pumped about the star-studded lineup in this game! Danny Dyer from EastEnders is stepping up his game with an incredible role that could be his best yet. Plus, there’s Emily Atack from The Inbetweeners and Katherine Parkinson from The IT Crowd joining the fun too. Can’t wait to see these talented actors bring their A-game!

As a devoted fan, I must admit that my heart was pounding during the climactic ending of our rival’s final season. It’s evident that we’ve only scratched the surface of Cooper’s captivating novel, hinting that there are even greater adventures yet to unfold!

Rivals is available to stream now on Disney+.
