David Tennant reveals why his racy Rivals sex scene was NOT as smooth sailing as it looks – and how it almost ended in disaster and injury

As a dedicated follower of both television and the lives of our beloved actors, I must say that David Tennant‘s candid revelation about his mishap during the filming of Rivals is nothing short of amusing. The man has always been known for his commitment to his roles, and this incident just adds another layer to his dedication.

In a recent disclosure, David Tennant shared that the steamy love scene from Rivals wasn’t as seamless as it appeared on-screen and instead culminated in chaos and injury.

The Doctor Who actor,  53, stars in the Jilly Cooper bonkbuster adaptation alongside Emily Atack.

In the latest Disney+ series, characters portrayed by David (Lord Tony Baddingham) and Emily (Sarah Stratton) are involved in some sensual, passionate moments. These actors can be seen sharing intimate scenes.

However, it seems that the intense scenes didn’t unfold quite as flawlessly as they seemed. In one instance, David admitted to injuring his knee by accident when a romantic scene was executed incorrectly.

During an interview on Heart radio, the actor openly admitted to Alex Hassell and Pandora Christie that the event transpired because he had gotten overly eager to head straight to bed.

At one point, he mentioned that he found himself leaping onto a mattress, intending for an experience of intense, almost ecstatic pleasure. However, he landed a bit too early, causing his knee to collide with the bed frame and get injured.

To which Alex replied: ‘He does his own stunt’.

David mentioned, “I accidentally perform my own stunts,” to which Pandora responded, “Thank you so much for owning up to those small mistakes.

David quipped, “That wasn’t my most attractive action,” to which Pandora gently replied, “Well, that really depends on your preferences!

The explicit TV series is inspired by the 1988 novel from renowned author Jilly Cooper, delving into the ruthless landscape of independent television during the year 1986.

The story focuses on the tense rivalry between David’s character Lord Tony Baddingham and Rupert Campbell-Black (Alex Hassell), while Emily stars as the promiscuous Sarah Stratton.

In the updated version, Disney+ plans to view the 1980s original through a contemporary perspective, known as the “2020s lens.” This classic story, which was infamous for its politically incorrect portrayal of sexuality and scandals among the English upper class, will receive modern treatment.

The fast-paced, eight-episode show is scheduled to premiere starting October 18, yet some viewers are curious about how the show’s themes will adapt for contemporary audiences.

Disney+ describes “Rivals” as an exhilarating rollercoaster journey filled with delightful mischief, intensely passionate love tales, and characters that are bigger than life.

In this production, we have the charming Aidan Turner from Poldark, the talented Bella Maclean known for Sex Education, the distinguished Danny Dyer from EastEnders, the versatile Luke Pasqualino who shone in Skins, and Alex Hassell, famed for his role in BBC’s His Dark Materials.

The Rutshire Chronicles’ installment climbed high on the sales charts, surpassing the milestone of a million copies sold.

On October 18, Rivals is set for release in the UK and globally, while viewers in the U.S. can catch it on Hulu.

Tune into Heart’s mid-morning shows, hosted by Pandora Christie, every weekday from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM across the United Kingdom, or catch it on the Global Player app.
