David Tennant leads stacked British cast in ITV’s real-life scandal drama
ITV has revealed the stellar lineup for their upcoming series, “The Hack”, featuring David Tennant from “Doctor Who” taking the lead role.
In this portrayal, Tennant assumes the part of actual investigative journalist Nick Davies, who exposed phone hacking at Rupert Murdoch’s News of the World. This revelation triggered the closure of the newspaper and the incarceration of its former editor Andy Coulson.
In this series, the plotline will be intricately connected to the ongoing investigation of the unresolved murder case of private detective Daniel Morgan, headed by retired Metropolitan Police Detective Chief Superintendent Dave Cook (portrayed by Robert Carlyle). The narrative unfolds from the years 2002 to 2012 within the show.
Actor Toby Jones, who played Mr. Bates in a movie, has been selected to portray Alan Rusbridger, a previous chief editor at The Guardian newspaper, known for its extensive coverage of the story, in an upcoming production.
Among the other notable actors in this production are Rose Leslie, known for her role in “Game of Thrones,” Steve Pemberton from “Inside No.9,” Charlie Brooks who hails from “EastEnders,” Adrian Lester starring in “Trigger Point,” and Eve Myles, Katherine Kelly, and Dougray Scott, all of whom have appeared in the series “The Crow Girl.
Completing the group are Kevin Doyle, Neil Maskell, Lara Pulver, Lee Ingleby, Pip Torrens, Lisa McGrillis, Sean Pertwee, Robert Bathurst, Richard Pepple, Nadia Albina, Phil Davis and Ace Bhatti.

In case you’re wondering, “The Hack” is a show penned by Jack Thorne, a prolific writer who has previously given us gems such as “Enola Holmes,” “His Dark Materials,” and the stage play adaptation of “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.” Interestingly, Jack himself acts as an executive producer in this series. Lewis Arnold, on the other hand, is the one behind the camera, directing the show known as “Sherwood.
In his declaration, Thorne expressed that a particular event from our recent past was both puzzling and misleading. It has multiple facets, leading one to believe they grasped the entire situation. However, he admitted that he was mistaken in this assumption. As someone with an interest in politics, he believed he understood it all, but he did not.
What truly astounded me was the struggle for unveiling the truth. Given our current times, when the truth appears to be under greater threat than ever before, it’s crucial that we narrate this tale.
It’s truly a privilege for me to work on this project with David, Robert, Toby, Lewis, Patrick, Joe, and Abi. I aim to portray both the intricacy of the events and the remarkable journalism that lies beneath them faithfully.
The Hack will air on ITV and STV and be available for streaming on ITVX and STV Player.
