The BBC has announced a third season of the acclaimed prison drama Time. David Tennant will lead the cast, and Siobhan Finneran will return as Marie-Louise, the prison chaplain, a role she previously played in the series.
The third season of Time will be set in a young offenders’ institution, following the difficult experiences of two teenagers as they begin their time in prison. David Tennant will star as Bailey, a prison officer dealing with personal struggles of his own, according to the BBC.
I’m really hooked by the latest teasers! Apparently, something terrible is going to happen inside the prison, and it’s going to cause a lot of tension between Marie-Louise, who’s new, and Bailey, who’s been there a while. It sounds like Bailey knows exactly what went down, but I’m on the edge of my seat wondering if he’ll tell the truth before it eats him up inside!

I first discovered Time back in 2021, and I was immediately hooked! It stars Stephen Graham and Sean Bean, playing characters who end up on very different sides of the law, and the whole story takes place inside a men’s prison – it’s really intense.
A review in Digital Spy described the show as a raw and intensely violent portrayal of prison life, and noted how it creates a steadily mounting sense of confinement.

The drama has received widespread critical praise and currently holds a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
At the 2022 BAFTAs, Time was a major winner, earning awards for Best Miniseries and Best Actor for Sean Bean. Stephen Graham received a nomination for Supporting Actor, but Matthew Macfadyen from Succession ultimately won the prize.
In 2023, the second season of Time shifted its focus to a women’s prison, starring Jodie Whittaker, Bella Ramsey, and Tamara Lawrance.

The popular drama Time is returning for a third season. Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, announced the news, praising Jimmy McGovern’s skill at creating compelling and impactful stories that connect with audiences.
Starring David Tennant and Siobhan Finneran, and with Jimmy at the helm, this new project promises to be another compelling and unforgettable story. Samuel Bailey has co-written the script, Paul Whittington directs, and the production is handled by BBC Studios Fiction.
Time season three will film in Belfast, and will be written by McGovern and Samuel Bailey (Shook).
The third season of Time will be shown on BBC One and available to stream on BBC iPlayer. You can currently watch seasons one and two on BBC iPlayer as well.
The latest issue of Living Legends is now available! You can purchase Ariana & Witches at newsstands or online for only £8.99.
