Most people understand celebrities enjoy their personal lives, and they should be free to do so as long as everyone involved is consenting. Usually, their private lives are their own business. However, sometimes a story emerges that’s just too strange not to talk about, and this is one of them.

On a recent episode of his podcast, Fly On The Wall (co-hosted with Dana Carvey), Davis Spade was playfully teased by guest Isla Fisher (starring in the new movie Now You See Me: Now You Don’t). Fisher recounted a story about trying to set Spade up with a friend, who later told her that Spade texted her a pickup time without even introducing himself. Spade took the ribbing in good humor, and later shared a story about hearing rumors of another celebrity with an unusual approach to dating.

I recently heard about an actor – I’ll tell you who it is later – who reportedly sends sexually aggressive texts to women, promising a sexual encounter to the first one who responds. Apparently, he wants them to compete for his attention, creating a chaotic and competitive situation. I don’t think you’ll be surprised when I reveal his identity.

Both Dana Carvey and Isla Fisher were shocked by the story. Fisher described it as incredibly arrogant and wondered how often someone actually tries something like that successfully. Carvey joked about how famous the person was compared to Nicolas Cage, and David Spade explained it was someone less well-known, though still a recognizable actor.

I’m confused about how these women are expected to reply – should they answer in the group chat or privately? It seems like the person texting prefers the group chat, but that feels really uncomfortable and awkward. It makes me wonder if that’s intentional, and part of a larger, unpleasant situation where someone is taking advantage of a power imbalance.

I’m definitely curious about who this person is, but I don’t expect we’ll ever find out. Spade isn’t talking, and while the whole situation is strange and unsettling, it’s not against the law. I’m going to make my own guess and stick with it, and I recommend you do the same. Here’s what we know: it’s an actor who isn’t as well-known as Nicolas Cage – so, pretty much anyone – but is still somewhat famous, and probably knows people who know Spade.
