David Jonsson and Marisa Abela competing for public-voted BAFTA award
This year’s contenders for the EE Rising Star Award, the unique public-voted BAFTA honor, have been revealed.
This year, David Jonsson, Marisa Abela, Mikey Madison, Jharrel Jerome, and Nabhaan Rizwan have been nominated for the EE Rising Star Award.
Jonsson, Abela, and Rizwan played roles in the series “Industry“, but they each achieved their major film debuts in 2024 with “Alien: Romulus”, “Back to Black“, and “In Camera>” respectively.
It is anticipated that Madison will be vying for the Best Actress award at the Oscars for her role in Anora, whereas Jerome is the main actor in Prime Video’s latest film, Unstoppable, which was released on January 16.
The announcement of the victor is scheduled for the EE British Academy Film Awards happening on Sunday, February 16. This event can be watched live on BBC One and iPlayer.
Notable recipients of the Rising Star Award are Emma Mackey, Letitia Wright, Daniel Kaluuya, Tom Holland, Kristen Stewart, Tom Hardy, and most recently, Mia McKenna-Bruce.
Once again this year, the EE British Academy Film Awards will be overseen by David Tennant, who has been chosen as the host for a second consecutive time. The list of nominees is set to be unveiled on January 15th.
Jane Millichip, the CEO of BAFTA, expressed her delight, saying, “It makes us incredibly joyful that David Tennant will be back to host the EE BAFTA Film Awards in 2025.
“Working with him is a genuine joy, and his work this year has been nothing short of exceptional – charming, humorously intelligent, sharp-witted, and subtly playful.
In the list of nominees, Emilia Pérez is at the top with recognition in fifteen categories, followed closely by Conclave with fourteen mentions, while The Substance, The Brutalist, and A Complete Unknown each receive eleven nods.
On February 16, 2025, the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs) for the year 2025 will take place at the Royal Festival Hall. The event will be aired on BBC One and can also be streamed on iPlayer.
