David Haye has responded to the controversy surrounding his behavior towards Adam Thomas on ‘I’m A Celebrity,’ making a critical comment just before the show’s finale.
The 45-year-old boxer and 37-year-old Adam, a star from the TV show Waterloo Road, didn’t get along while filming in the South African jungle last September.
David is facing accusations of bullying after making several critical remarks about Adam, including calling him ‘useless’ for withdrawing from a trial because of health issues.
Okay, so after David left the show earlier this week and talked about some playful teasing, he’s now unfortunately gone a step further and made another pointed comment about Adam. It’s a shame to see things escalating like this, and honestly, it just adds unnecessary drama. As someone who always advocates for positive interactions, I wish they’d find a way to resolve things more constructively.
On Tuesday evening, David shared an AI-generated image on social media showing him in boxing shorts, giving the middle finger with a stern expression.
The photo is accompanied by audio of Adam saying to David, during a conversation at camp, “I don’t have a problem with anyone except you right now.”
Adam released a heartfelt statement on Sunday, revealing he’d been dealing with significant physical, mental, and emotional challenges during his time in camp. He also stated that David had deeply upset him.
Viewers complained about David’s behavior after Adam, who has psoriatic arthritis, shared that he was too unwell to take part in the ‘Termite Terror’ challenge last Friday. This led to accusations of bullying.
I just couldn’t believe what I was hearing! David totally lost it, practically yelling about how someone being sick shouldn’t matter. He was all, ‘He’s an adult, get over it!’ Honestly, it was harsh, but it kinda resonated with me… I just hate when people act helpless. It’s frustrating, you know?
‘I hate them useless guys. He is useless.’
Adam said he wouldn’t eat dinner because he’d withdrawn from the challenge, but his fellow campmates wouldn’t allow him to skip the meal.
Okay, so David just had to add his two cents, saying he wanted a smaller serving than the rest of us. Seriously? It’s like he’s trying to be different, even with food! It’s just… ugh, classic David.
Adam was upset with David’s response to the amount of food he was given, and he immediately told him to step outside to discuss it. He said, ‘Let’s go outside, now.’
As dessert arrived, a frustrated David remarked they hadn’t received as much as they’d hoped. Scarlett Moffatt quickly intervened, telling others to stop bothering him.
Ant and Dec, the hosts of ‘I’m A Celebrity,’ admitted they felt uneasy about some of the conversations they witnessed on the show’s companion series, ‘Unpacked.’
Ant said: ‘It’s not a nice watch. He just kind of picks and picks at them.
Adam is really struggling and the constant teasing is overwhelming him. Unfortunately, David continues to push it, even though it’s clear Adam can’t handle it.
Dec agreed: ‘It’s kind of crossed the line from banter. I don’t find it comfortable to watch.’
After leaving camp, David explained his history with Adam, saying there were no hard feelings. He shared that he’d grown up in the demanding world of boxing, starting at age ten, and had spent years training and fighting, often against larger opponents. He’d even become a world heavyweight champion, defeating a seven-foot-tall Russian fighter.
It feels strange when someone tells me a job—especially one that’s enjoyable and well-paid—is the most difficult thing they’ve ever experienced. It just doesn’t seem to fit with what I’d expect.
‘I was actually on my best behaviour there, honestly.’
Adam shared a photo of himself looking sad while relaxing in a hammock in the jungle, along with a heartfelt message. He admitted the picture makes him sad because he now understands the struggles he was facing weren’t his fault, a realization that took time to reach.
Being on I’m a Celebrity South Africa was incredibly challenging for me, both physically and emotionally. It really pushed me to my limits.
It was tough to watch the show back. There were times I felt incredibly stressed and stretched to my breaking point, and honestly, I sometimes didn’t even seem like myself.
I don’t often discuss my arthritis, though it’s been a significant struggle and has really affected me.
The hardest part was pretending everything was okay and masking how much I was hurting. It took a huge amount of energy, and honestly, there were times I felt completely drained and just wanted to give up, but I kept pushing through.
I definitely made mistakes, and I wish I’d acted differently in some situations. I should have spoken up and defended myself earlier instead of always trying to avoid conflict. But I’ve realized that being kind doesn’t mean being a pushover, and these experiences have helped me learn to stand up for what I believe in.
Viewers were finally able to see the argument between Jimmy Bullard and Adam that led to Bullard’s decision to leave ‘I’m A Celebrity’.
During a trial, Jimmy decided he had enough and said the show’s famous phrase to end the trial.
Let me tell you, witnessing that challenge was intense! David was understandably furious when he realized Jimmy was seemingly messing with him during the ant-covered task. He let out a pretty strong reaction, exclaiming something along the lines of, ‘Jimmy, seriously? I’m already covered in ants here!’ It was a really frustrating moment for him, and you could definitely feel the tension rise.
Jimmy replied: ‘Woah, calm down. That’s pathetic.’
The two are reportedly still not speaking, and Jimmy is refusing to attend the show’s live final in London this Friday.
If he does not appear, he faces losing 20% of his appearance fee.
I’m A Celebrity continues on ITV1 and ITVX.
