David Harbour (Hopper) promises “spectacular” Stranger Things finale

As a devoted Stranger Things fan who has been on this rollercoaster journey for nearly a decade now, I can confidently say that the fifth and final season is shaping up to be nothing short of spectacular. With David Harbour’s assurance that the finale will deliver a satisfying ending, my excitement is reaching new heights.

After a long wait, the much-anticipated final season of Netflix’s “Stranger Things” is set to air in 2025. The fifth and concluding season, consisting of eight episodes, has undergone extensive production, with filming kicking off in January 2024 and expected to continue for nearly a year.

David Harbour, known for his role as Jim Hopper in the series, has been keeping quite busy. He’s involved with DC’s “Creature Commandos”, Marvel’s “Thunderbolts”, and of course, “Stranger Things”. Despite the tight confidentiality agreements (NDAs) associated with “Stranger Things”, Harbour recently shared some insights about the upcoming series finale with Collider. Addressing concerns that the show might not deliver a satisfying conclusion, Harbour is confident that the finale will be well-received. “I’ve said it before, but I do believe the finale is extraordinary,” he stated. “I think it’s incredibly satisfying if you’ve been a fan of the show.

It’s worth noting that Harbour isn’t completely sure if the ending is entirely conclusive. They intend to keep some plot threads unresolved, allowing room for potential sequels or spin-offs.

It takes a lot of threads that you may have worried about or wondered about — I’m not saying it ties them up into a nice, neat bow, but it gives you the having-eaten-a-big-meal satisfaction that you will crave. Whether that be sad or happy, we don’t know, but it will give you that. It will give you that satisfaction as a fan of the show. I don’t feel like we’re gonna disappoint.

Harbour also touched on the emotional rollercoaster of filming this show over the course of nearly decade. He started season 1 working with kids; now those child actors are adults with glittering careers. “It’s very emotional. Those kids were kids when we started. It’s been 10 years of our lives, come 2025,” he said. “So, you’ve gone through watching the show, and that was their childhood, shooting it for you. I think that that’s very profound when you come to a close.”

Hawkins will be in “disarray” in Stranger Things season 5

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but share my thoughts about the season 4 finale. We believed we had vanquished the monstrous being known as Vecna, but in the last scene, the ominous Upside Down world started seeping into our peaceful town of Hawkins. The epic battle we thought was over, is far from it. The biggest fight still lies ahead!

It appears that the town of Hawkins, Indiana has undergone a significant change, and things are noticeably different as we enter this new season compared to previous ones, according to star Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin), who spoke with The Direct. “In the last season, in Season 4, there were small victories, suggesting that Vecna may have been contained. However, a major loss occurred, leaving rifts open throughout Hawkins. We see at the end of Season 4 that Hawkins is in disarray, and this new season unfolds in the wake of that destruction,” Matarazzo explained.

Additionally, it appears that Dustin will be grappling with significant personal struggles this season, given the emotional turmoil he experienced following Eddie’s (Joseph Quinn) demise at the end of season 4. As Matarazzo explained, “Although he remains the same character we adore, there is a backdrop of his trauma and the burden of loss that seems to persist throughout the early part of this season. I believe audiences will appreciate seeing him navigate through this emotional arc and dealing with intense grief at a young age. Many viewers, including myself, can empathize and identify with the complex feelings of confusion and anger he experiences.” So, I’m excited for fans to witness this journey!

The final episodes of Stranger Things will be “very long”

As for now, we don’t know when “Stranger Things” Season 5 will be released, and there hasn’t been any sneak peek shown to us. However, it is anticipated that the show will wrap up in the year 2025.

When that occurs, settle down. As Maya Hawke (Robin) mentioned on the Podcrushed podcast, we’re essentially producing eight lengthy films. The episodes are quite extended. This aligns with season 4, as none of the episodes were less than an hour, and the finale ran an impressive 2 hours and 30 minutes!
