David Harbour confesses his biggest ‘ick’ about wife Lily Allen and reveals why he knew he would marry her from their third date

As an ardent fan of both David Harbour and Lily Allen, I find myself utterly captivated by their unique dynamic. The quirky idiosyncrasies that make them who they are have drawn me closer to their relationship, and I can’t help but feel a sense of camaraderie with the actor as he shares anecdotes about his wife’s peculiar habit.

David Harbour has disclosed that the habit which annoys him most about his wife, Lily Allen, is… and he had made up his mind to propose marriage by their third date because…

As a devoted admirer and follower, I found myself in an intriguing situation, much like the one Jim Hopper, the 49-year-old actor from Stranger Things on Netflix, recently described. He shared that a certain singer, aged 39, possessed a peculiar charm he referred to as a ‘unique strange ick’. This enigmatic allure left him willingly spending time in her presence when I had other commitments, only for us to remain silent afterwards.

David mentioned that she often does this: “She’s usually down in the kitchen, either cooking or doing some other task, while I’m trying to go about my day, busy with different tasks. And then she’ll summon me to the kitchen.”

‘And it’ll be for some reason like “David, David, do we have any cheese?”

I’ll head to the kitchen, exclaim something like “Look! There’s cheese here!” Then she might ask, “Where are you off to?”

‘And I’m like “Babe, I’m just going to live my life”.

As a die-hard admirer, I find myself met with a disapproving gaze when I rise to embark on my daily routine, leaving her seated at the kitchen table. Yet, she remains tight-lipped and aloof, unwilling to engage in any form of conversation or interaction.

‘She just wants me to be there as a presence.’

As Miquita Oliver, Lily’s best friend, inquired about my thoughts regarding my wife’s actions, I shared with her during our chat on the Miss Me? podcast that I’ve got a crystal-clear understanding of the reasons behind it. However, it delves into such profound psychological complexities that I find myself reluctant to disclose them openly.

Later on, he mentioned, “This is a situation where my wife suggested I shouldn’t share too many details,” and then clarified, “She simply enjoys the companionship of having people around in a room.”

She seems to highly appreciate it, yet she prefers not to engage directly. However, her appreciation for it remains strong.

Miquita recounted an instance when Lily mentioned that during their holiday, they (Lily and David) were having dinner together, and the conversation had run out. This made David express his fear, saying “I’m worried, are we alright? It feels like we don’t have anything to talk about with each other.”

Lily said, “Yes, that’s it – just you and me. You don’t have to say a word, your presence is enough.”

David confessed that he and Lily can sometimes have contrasting personalities, as he put it: “I might say something like, ‘Let’s dive right in’, let’s discuss the cosmos and our purpose here on Earth.” He further explained their relationship is like the balance of Yin and Yang.

He mentioned that it’s best for her to have us nearby, in a calm and silent manner, allowing her to focus solely on her task – rather bothersome.

Regardless of any complaints he might have had, David openly expressed his affection for Lily during their conversation. He detailed that it was on their third date when he realized she was the woman he intended to propose to.

On the third date, it was clear that I had developed strong feelings for her, as recounted by the actor, who has been romantically linked to both Alison Sudol and Julia Stiles in the past.

As we recently chatted, there was mention of this remarkable generosity and the concept of collaboration. I’ve experienced affection in the past, been involved in relationships, but the notion of a deep, trusting alliance where one genuinely prioritizes the other’s welfare resonates with me like nothing else has before.

On our third date, I suddenly realized, “This individual seems trustworthy, someone I could rely on, and vice versa.”

It struck me as deeply meaningful, almost tangible. And my reaction was something along the lines of, “Wow, this feels incredibly genuine.”

In 2019, they started their romantic journey, and by the next year, they exchanged vows in a Las Vegas ceremony presided over by an Elvis Presley look-alike.
