David Fincher might remake a popular show on Netflix (and no, it’s not Mindhunter)
As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for Korean dramas and an unquenchable thirst for innovative storytelling, the news of the potential expansion of the Squid Game universe has me absolutely thrilled! The combination of Hwang Dong-hyuk’s masterful narrative and David Fincher‘s cinematic prowess promises to be a match made in entertainment heaven.
In just a couple of months, we’re close to the eagerly awaited debut of season 2 for Netflix’s hit Korean series, “Squid Game.” Interestingly, Netflix has hinted that there will indeed be a third (and concluding) season. However, according to a recent report by Deadline, the world of “Squid Game” might be growing beyond these seasons.
Speculation about an American remake or adaptation of the show has circulated since its debut, and it appears that plans might be moving forward with acclaimed actor David Fincher set to direct. Fans of Netflix will recognize Fincher from his suspenseful series “Mindhunter,” which although short-lived, developed a dedicated fanbase eagerly waiting for a third season for over half a decade. He is also well-known for hit films such as “Gone Girl,” “Se7en,” “Fight Club,” and “Zodiac.
It appears that Fincher has been favoring Netflix as his production platform, given that his recent films, Mank and The Killer, were both created for streaming on this service. According to Deadline, there have been increasing whispers over the past few months hinting that Fincher might be planning a new Squid Game series in 2025.
2021 saw the debut of “Squid Game”, a series that received widespread praise and swiftly climbed to become one of Netflix’s most-viewed original productions ever. It also garnered an impressive 14 Primetime Emmy Award nominations, with its lead actor, Lee Jung-jae, taking home the award for Outstanding Lead Actor.
As a dedicated fan, I can’t contain my excitement! Season 2 drops on December 26, and here’s the best part – we’ve got another season (3) lined up for some time in 2025. Frankly, it was tough to imagine the series ending after just three seasons given its massive success. But hey, who am I to question Netflix?
In addition to the possible upcoming remake, Netflix had already broadcasted a reality TV show titled “Squid Game: The Challenge,” and plans for a second season of this series are underway as well.
