David Corenswet Confirms He’s Under Contract for Superman 2 in the New DCU

David Corenswet, who plays Superman, has sparked excitement among DCU fans by hinting at the possibility of a new “Superman 2” movie. As Clark Kent, Corenswet is set to make his debut flight in James Gunn’s new DC Universe, with early reviews suggesting it could be one of the biggest DC films in years. With anticipation already high for the Superman star’s return in the iconic red cape, fans are eagerly awaiting news on when he might reappear.

David Corenswet, who plays Superman, has officially signed a deal with DC Studios for a new Superman movie sequel. Initially slated to portray the role in June 2023, Corenswet will headline the first standalone Superman film since 2013’s “Man of Steel.” This development brings excitement about the possibility of witnessing his interpretation of the Last Son of Krypton on the big screen for an extended period, and now we know that this continuation is indeed in the works.

During an interview with Vanity Fair, using a lie detector test, Nicholas Hoult (Lex Luthor’s actor) inquired from Corenswet about his preference between portraying a Jedi Knight in a new Star Wars film or reprising his role as Superman in a sequel. Even though Corenswet opted for Star Wars (which turned out to be truthful), he disclosed that he is currently bound by contract for a sequel and humorously mentioned the need for negotiating a new agreement if he were to take on a Star Wars character: instead of saying “already under contract,” he said he would have to negotiate a fresh contract.

This is the initial hint that Superman 2 might be in the works for Gunn’s fresh DC Universe, but it hasn’t been confirmed yet how far along in development it is. At present, Gunn has more than a dozen films and TV series in different stages of production. However, only the first Superman film has been officially announced to feature Corenswet as the Man of Steel upon its release.

In the initial film of the freshly introduced DC Universe (DC Studios), we find Superman portrayed by David Corenswet (Clark Kent) alongside Nicholas Hoult (Lex Luthor), Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), and others. When Will Superman 2 Move Further Into Development?

However, since James Gunn has stated that projects won’t proceed unless they have a finalized script, and considering his other executive duties at DC Studios, it might take a few more years for this movie to materialize.

Looking at the positive perspective, just before the premiere of Superman, Gunn also hinted that he had already planned for the actor’s future portrayal of Clark Kent. However, he remained tight-lipped about whether this would be in a standalone Superman sequel or another film. Given that other notable characters such as Batman, Wonder Woman, and others are being developed for the new DCU, Gunn still has ample time to finalize these details and figure out how this next appearance will align with the larger narrative.

Despite general confidence that Superman won’t bomb at the box office, the upcoming days and weeks will decisively influence whether Warner Bros. and DC Studios hastily approve a potential Superman 2 for Gunn, Corenswet, and their team to proceed with.
