David Byrne announces world tour and his long-awaited solo album ‘Who Is the Sky?’
Enthusiasts of Talking Heads and David Byrne will be thrilled, for the 73-year-old artist has declared that he is releasing a new album after a gap of seven years, and also plans to embark on a tour.
On September 5, the album titled “Who Is the Sky?” will become available on streaming platforms and stores. Following this, Byrne is set to launch the North American segment of his tour, which includes two shows at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles in November. Later in 2026, he’s scheduled to perform in New Zealand, followed by Australia and Europe.
The primary track on the 12-track album is “Everybody Laughs,” which was unveiled along with its accompanying music video, directed by the renowned multimedia artist Gabriel Barcia-Colombo, on Tuesday.

A friend pointed out to me that I frequently say “everyone,” and I think I do this to convey a cultural perspective on life in New York, as I see it. This is what Byrne stated in a press statement.
We all experience living, dying, laughing, crying, sleeping, and gazing up at ceilings. Some people even wear others’ shoes, though not everyone does this. I attempted to express these seemingly negative aspects in a song with a counterbalancing positive vibe from the rhythm and melody, particularly when St. Vincent and I are both shouting and singing together. The music can be amazing because it can embody contrasts at the same time.
The New York-based group Ghost Train Orchestra is responsible for assembling this particular album. They also teamed up with artists such as St. Vincent, Hayley Williams, and Tom Skinner from Smile on this project. David Byrne’s latest album was “American Utopia,” released in 2018. This album later transformed into a Broadway show, which Spike Lee directed as a concert film in 2020.
But it wasn’t a Byrne tour that fans were expecting.
From 1975 to 1991, Talking Heads, with David Byrne as lead vocalist, released a sneak peek on June 2, featuring their hit “Psycho Killer”. Interestingly, the date within this short video, June 5, holds significance in the band’s storied past.
One enthusiast noted that it was on June 5, 1975, when Talking Heads performed their inaugural show, opening for the Ramones, at the famed CBGB club.
Rather than an announcement about a tour, fans were treated to a music video featuring the Irish actress Saoirse Ronan instead.

Someone quipped that they only produced the video once Saoirse Ronan had been born, showing great patience. Very well-organized.”
Or, if you prefer a more colloquial style:
“One fan playfully said they made the video after Saoirse Ronan was born, demonstrating impressive planning skills. Quite organized!
