David Beckham admits to being competitive even with his children
As a lifelong football fan and one who grew up idolizing the likes of David Beckham, hearing him admit to his unrelenting competitive nature, even when playing with his own children, is not entirely surprising but still quite amusing. After all, the man’s career was built on his unparalleled drive to win, and it seems that this fire has yet to be extinguished, even during a casual game of table tennis with his adorable offspring.
When considering David Beckham, what thoughts or images immediately spring to your mind? Is it primarily his marriage with Victoria Beckham that stands out to you? Or perhaps his overall family life is what you associate with him most? Alternatively, does his professional soccer (football) career hold the foremost place in your mind’s eye?
Given his long-standing career as a professional athlete, it’s natural to think of his sports background first and foremost, closely followed by his family life. Being a former athlete, it’s understandable that he possesses a highly competitive nature. Consequently, it might not be shocking that this competition extends even to his own children.
People Magazine reports that Beckham confessed that, despite engaging in more playful activities with his children, his competitive spirit surfaces. In simpler words, as an athlete, he always desires victory, even during games with his kids. This might not come as a shock, but it’s intriguing to learn that his athletic mindset makes him strive for victory all the time while playing with his kids.
David Beckham admits that he wants to win even when playing with his kids
As the ex-footballer explains, there’s an undeniable drive within him to triumph and compete, regardless of the activity involved.
I’m the same with my kids. Even when we play table tennis, I want to win. I love my kids, but I want to win.
It’s quite interesting that it doesn’t even matter what they may be playing, David Beckham is a competitor. That being said, it is quite nice that he makes it clear that he loves his children, even if he does want to beat them at things like table tennis. It is a reminder that while he may have retired from soccer back in 2013, 20 years of being a professional athlete really shaped the way he views competition. And since he is part owner of Inter Miami CF and co-owner of Salford City, it is not like his competitive nature really gets a chance to rest anyway.
Being a David Beckham enthusiast, it’s not too unexpected, but we certainly value his candor in acknowledging that winning has been a constant desire throughout his career.
Are you at all surprised by what David Beckham had to say about his competitive nature?
