Dave Hughes Tense After Spats with Kyle Sandilands and Festival Drama

On Monday, Dave ‘Hughsey’ Hughes stepped out for a cup of coffee in Melbourne, appearing somewhat tired or disheveled following his attention-attracting performance at the Adelaide Fridge Festival.

This past week, videos surfaced showing a comedian and ex-radio host becoming enraged and spraying three attendees with a substance during the gathering.

In a different phrasing, as Hughesy spoke to the gathering, they heard the audience repeat, “It’s over,” which was his way of saying, “I’m in charge here, please be quiet.

After the commotion subsided, he disclosed that he had given the chatty group five verbal warnings and provided them with a refund option before asking them to leave the room.

Following the disturbance, he confessed that he had warned the noisy bunch five times and offered them a chance for a refund before asking them to vacate the premises.

Or simply:
After the uproar, he admitted that he’d given them five warnings, offered a refund, and then asked them to leave the space.

This week, during his excursion, Hughesy, aged 54, seemed somewhat anxious as he was observed departing from a fashionable café located in the vibrant district of Prahran.

A man with three children stepped out for a quick energy boost, dressed casually in a mix-and-match outfit: an olive green Nike sweatshirt paired with black Adidas shorts and some lively socks.

Hughesy also rocked his favourite pair of hot pink and orange running shoes and his Apple watch. 

He held his car keys in one hand, an iPhone in the other, and had a bit of stubble indicating it was past 5 pm, while he went about running his errands.

At times, he appeared lost in thought and far away, wearing a serious expression on his face. 

Over the past fortnight, the media figure found themselves caught up in a storm of events. They even stopped by The Kyle and Jackie O Show with the aim of addressing lingering issues with their old adversary, Kyle Sandilands.

Hughesy expressed no compassion towards his radio competitor when the news about the shock jock’s brain aneurysm was announced.

As reported by Hughesy, the quote about Kyle’s radio ratings in Melbourne was misrepresented or removed from its original context.

But the story had already bolted.  

As a devoted follower, I acknowledge that Jackie ‘O’ Henderson, my esteemed co-host, pointed out to Dave that my latest remarks appeared to deviate from my usual character.

‘This is fake news. It’s misinformation,’ he said.

In that article, there was no question regarding Kyle’s wellbeing. Let me clarify, I’ve just emerged from the ‘I’m A Celebrity’ jungle.

It seemed unclear to me who was healthy and who wasn’t among the group we were discussing. I hadn’t been aware of your brain aneurysm, Kyle. The topic of conversation revolved around television ratings and if there is any sympathy for you in Melbourne. That was the query that had been posed to me.

Kyle expressed doubt that the blunt remarks came from the comedian, given their severity.

‘That’s why I didn’t reply, because I thought, “S***, is this even Hughesy?”

He confessed, “I was at home, bandaged and bleeding from an eye wound, fearing death, but still planning to vote for you amidst feelings of deep sadness in the wilderness.

For the remainder of this month, Hughesy is planning to return home and resume his stand-up show, as many of the tour dates in Melbourne have either sold out or are nearing capacity.

In my own words, I’ve decided to make a comeback in stand-up comedy. Previously, as a morning show host on Sydney’s 2DayFM, I felt the spark fade away from my passion for commercial radio following my unexpected termination last year. This move signifies a new chapter in my career and an exciting opportunity to connect with audiences in a different way.

In August 2024, the popular Hughesy, Ed & Erin morning program concluded dramatically due to a decline in ratings and apparent dedication concerns.

Hughsey expressed his relief to not be on commercial radio this year when he spoke with The Herald Sun in January before leaving Australia for ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ shoot.

Truthfully, I’m utterly fed up with those tunes. Each day, waking up to the same seven songs feels like a lifetime sentence that I never asked for.

In the latest viewership survey, the show run by Hughesy, Ed Kavalee, and Erin Molan only garnered a modest 3.6% of the market audience share.

However, the Melbourne-based host found no affection for him, as he confessed he had felt caught between two cities, traveling to Sydney weekly for work, and was utterly drained.
