With fans still in shock over the latest news, a resurfaced interview featuring Dave Grohl’s late mother, Virginia, has been unearthed where she candidly shared her concerns about his romantic relationships.
In an interview with The Guardian back in 2017, Virginia (who passed away in 2022) admitted that her primary concern for her son wasn’t about him falling into the traps of a rock and roll lifestyle, but rather how he would navigate relationships with women.
Looking back at Grohl’s rise to fame during the Nineties, I must confess that I had concerns for the ladies, and it’s a bit cringe-worthy to admit this. My greatest apprehension was that Madonna might sweep him off his feet.
Virginia also touched on Grohl’s status as ‘the nicest man in rock’.
In her research for a book, the ex-teacher turned author conversed with the mothers of famous musicians and discovered that they placed greater importance on hidden acts of benevolence and goodwill – what could be considered commitments to family or community – rather than platinum records.
She continued by detailing Grohl as a compassionate individual who gives generously (philanthropist), a devoted spouse (steady husband), and an exceptional father to his three daughters (super dad).
Grohl and Blum have daughters Violet, 18, Harper, 15, and Ophelia, 10, together.

After confessing to an affair in 2007 to The Guardian, he later admitted that he had been unfaithful to his first wife, Jennifer Leigh Youngblood as well.
The two married in 1994 but had separated by 1996, and they divorced the following year.
During the same interview with The Guardon, Grohl mentioned that his wife, Jordyn, and daughter, Violet, serve as anchors that prevent him from totally vanishing.
Speaking to TIME in 2012, he said his family ‘changed everything that I do.’
He added: ‘It’s changed everything that I do. When you have kids, you see life through different eyes. You feel love more deeply and are maybe a little more compassionate. It’s inevitable that that would make its way into your songwriting.’
It’s not widely disclosed about Blum, but it’s been reported that she once graced the cover of Teen magazine, following her discovery at a supermarket when she was just 12 years old.
She was reportedly working as a producer at MTV when she met the frontman.
In an interview with Elle in 2007, Grohl admitted that he wasn’t prepared for a committed relationship when he initially encountered Blum, and their interactions dwindled after a handful of dates.
As an ardent admirer, three months had passed since our last encounter, and I found myself in a moment of epiphany. I seized the opportunity to reach out, my fingers trembling as they dialed her number. On several occasions, Blum has teamed up with the Foo Fighters, one of which was for their 2002 music video ‘White Limo’, in which she made a cameo appearance.
