Dave Bautista’s action flop becomes a streaming hit

Last year, the action film “The Killer’s Game” by Dave Bautista didn’t make a big splash at movie theaters, but it has since gained popularity as a favorite choice on streaming platform Amazon Prime Video.

In the film titled “The Killer’s Game“, the actor known from “Guardians of the Galaxy” portrays Joe Flood, a hitman diagnosed with a terminal illness and deciding to authorize his own assassination. However, when the doctor reveals the diagnosis was incorrect, Joe must evade a band of relentless assassins who are intent on carrying out the hit.

After premiering in U.S. movie theaters in September, the film directed by JJ Perry brought in a total of $5.4 million at the ticket counter.

Although it struggled financially, the film has recently experienced a resurgence on Amazon’s Prime Video, claiming the title of the most-viewed movie globally on the platform during the past week. However, it’s important to note that it is currently unavailable for US subscribers.

Upon its theatrical debut, The Killer’s Game garnered a variety of opinions from critics, resulting in a 47% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The site praises the choice of Dave Bautista in a romantic role as a fresh twist, but finds that the overall hitman comedy, while amusing, lacks creative leaps in its execution.

Alongside Bautista, the ensemble also features Marvel Cinematic Universe stars Pom Klementieff and Sir Ben Kingsley, actor Terry Crews from Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and Sofia Boutella, who stars in Rebel Moon.

Besides Bautista, other cast members include MCU actors Pom Klementieff and Ben Kingsley, Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Terry Crews, and Sofia Boutella from Rebel Moon.

In the upcoming adventure movie, titled “Afterburn“, Bautista will be teaming up with Samuel L Jackson. The story unfolds ten years after a solar flare has destroyed technology worldwide, setting the scene in a post-apocalyptic landscape.

In the forthcoming animated film “Avatar: The Last Airbender”, the actor will also take on the role of a villain. He’ll be sharing the screen with Eric Nam, Dionne Quan, Jessica Matten, and Roman Zaragoza. As for specific character names and storyline, they are being kept secret for now.
