In reflecting upon these stories, I am struck by the resilience and strength of these individuals who have faced adversity head-on. The recollections of Sir Michael Caine, a man who has seen both the darkest days of war and the heights of success, serve as a poignant reminder that even in times of unimaginable hardship, one can find solace and strength within oneself. His emotional outburst at the National Liberal Club was not only a testament to his experiences during the Blitz but also a demonstration of the human capacity for empathy and vulnerability.

When asked about having daughters from three distinct women within the same year, Lucian Freud responded with a casual remark: “Aren’t you aware that I owned a bicycle?

However, it seems that only now are we truly seeing the impact of the artist’s blatant disregard for tradition unfold in its entirety.

In 2022, two of Sigmund Freud’s fourteen acknowledged children had a physical altercation at a London pub. As I previously mentioned, the conflict involved Paul McAdam Freud, one of his sons with Katherine McAdam, and Alex Boyt, Freud’s only son from Suzy Boyt.

Paul, just like his siblings David, Jane, and Lucy, were left out of Sigmund Freud’s substantial £42 million inheritance – a contrast to the inclusion of all ten of their half-siblings in the will.

Currently, in the refined atmosphere of Hatchards, London’s longest-standing bookstore, it falls upon Annie Freud – the eldest daughter of Freud by his first wife Kitty Garman – to share her personal emotional scars and reveal that, at the age of 76, she has finally found tranquility.

Following the completion of Hiddensee, Annie’s recent compilation of poems, she disclosed that her past traumatic experiences during childhood led her to undergo extensive psychotherapy sessions – a therapeutic approach originated by her illustrious ancestor, Sigmund Freud, who was renowned for pioneering this treatment.

However, this didn’t stop her from spiraling into an abyss of alcoholism despite leading a tranquil life in Dorset with her late spouse, Dave.

Annie recounts, “I consumed at least two bottles of wine daily.” At the age of 27, she was taken aback when, during lunch with her father in Soho, she encountered one of her half-brothers. Unbeknownst to her, he, along with others, existed.

Annie, who was never given her father’s telephone number, subsequently had a nervous breakdown.

In my own words, here’s how I’d rephrase it: “Losing my husband to lung cancer at 73 was devastating. Yet, in some strange twist of fate, it might have been a blessing in disguise. It propelled me to quit alcohol, or else I wouldn’t be here today. Now, residing in the tranquil landscapes of Suffolk, I can honestly say that for the first time in years, I am truly enjoying good mental health.

She has portrayed a series of chilly TV drama mothers, such as Lady Caroline Collingwood, mother of Logan Roy’s children in Succession, and Dame Harriet Walter, aged 74, offers an explanation for this trend: ‘Many writers have reached an age where their own mothers have passed away, so they can write harsh words about them.’

Dominic’s birthday delight

When photographs emerged showing Dominic West with co-star Lily James during a personal trip in Rome, he acknowledged that the scenario had caused significant stress for his spouse and children.

In a turn of events, it seems that the actor who portrayed Prince Charles in The Crown has reconnected with his family. This is evident as his daughter, aged 26, posted a video online, showcasing festivities for his 55th birthday.

In this image, the actor stands alongside his wife, aristocrat Catherine FitzGerald, as well as Martha and their 18-year-old daughter Dora.

In Martha’s post, she labeled a video showing an actor grinning from ear to ear and planting a kiss on her cheek as “Birthday Celebration – Cake & Candles”.

Wyman’s tears over Blitz poverty

At The Oldie magazine’s literary luncheon yesterday, Bill Wyman, often referred to as ‘The Quiet One’ within The Rolling Stones, left the audience spellbound as he wept openly.

87-year-old bassist shared stories from his memoirs, “Billy In The Wars,” at the National Liberal Club, located off Whitehall. He reminisced about the intense poverty he experienced as a schoolboy in London during the Blitz. “My mother would send me to bomb sites to gather dandelions to eat between slices of bread because I was so hungry,” he emotionally recounted.

‘You would have to scrape around for anything edible. It was f*****g horrible and I was so cold.’

He apologised to guests, saying: ‘I’m sorry, I get so emotional.’

I feel safe now I’m in my 40s, says Natalie

13-year-old actress Natalie Portman, known for her breakout role in “Leon: The Professional,” expressed her opinion last year that children ought to be engaging in play and attending school, rather than working on movie sets.

Currently, the Oscar-winning individual (on the left) has revealed that she didn’t fully accept being sexualized as a child until her 40s. The 43-year-old actress, who parted ways with her husband this year, commented: “It’s been freeing to be in my 40s now because I no longer feel that threat. I don’t feel like others are sexualizing me, I feel secure in my maturity and my capacity to handle different circumstances.

Vanessa: single life is ‘ghastly’

Vanessa Feltz felt deeply saddened upon ending her long-term relationship of 17 years with musician Ben Ofoedu from Phats & Small, due to his unfaithfulness.

Currently, the broadcaster, aged 62, openly acknowledges feeling overwhelmed by loneliness. She expresses to me during the Wimbledon BookFest, where she was showcasing her memoirs titled “Vanessa Bares All,” that living alone at Feltz Towers is her worst fear and something she finds unbearable.

I experience intense anxiety about finding myself alone at social events like bar mitzvahs or weddings, seated at the singles table. This is an undesirable situation I strive to avoid.

‘I found myself going to a wedding on my own in June and, as I walked in the door, I thought, ‘I’m going to end up on the singles table’.’

She comments: “I felt utterly dreadful. All I could think about was how soon I could leave. What’s the point of having such a terrible, unyielding, awful, draining partner who makes me feel like myself?

Society figure Alice Naylor-Leyland, who counts Princess Beatrice and Academy Award-winning actress Reese Witherspoon among her friends, found herself in a situation where she had to issue apologies to companions due to spending a significant portion of a recent New York visit in the hospital.

Alice, aged 38, who is married to Tom Naylor-Leyland – an individual destined for a baronetcy and the wealthy Fitzwilliam family’s land empire valued at approximately £176 million – runs a thriving venture named ‘Mrs Alice’, where she designs themed dining sets that have gained popularity.

Occasionally, my body acts up unexpectedly. Rest assured, I’m doing well now – it was merely a minor infection – but please know that I deeply regret not being able to connect with those I had to miss.
