Darren Hayes: Jaw-Snapping Fall, Secret Health Scare
Previously known as the lead singer of Savage Garden, Darren Hayes has shared details of a harrowing health incident that landed him in the hospital, leaving him with a fractured jaw and nine cracked teeth.
52-year-old music sensation took to social media Friday evening, sharing an unsettling post revealing the results of a harrowing fall and the titanium device currently keeping his jaw in place.
Hayes openly shared a heartfelt account of the entire incident and his current progress in healing, explaining that he’d been keeping this personal struggle hidden up until now.
Two months after my mother’s passing on March 17th, I experienced a distressing accident. I’ve tried to maintain privacy about this matter, yet due to my prolonged healing process, I find it necessary to share the truth: this is what has been happening with me.
After rising from my bed, I briefly passed out three times, collapsing on each occasion and regaining consciousness only momentarily.
‘A powerful impact shattered my left jawbone completely and left me with nine fractured teeth. Upon waking up, I found myself submerged in a puddle of blood, experiencing intense pain on the left side of my skull.’
Born in Brisbane, the singer acknowledges that emergency workers and healthcare professionals are the ones to thank for preserving his life. He expresses that if the fall happened at another angle, it’s likely he wouldn’t be here today.
As a lifestyle advocate, I couldn’t help but feel incredibly fortunate when I was swiftly located and escorted to the exceptional team at the Emergency Room of St John’s Providence in Santa Monica. In a matter of moments, they sprang into action, potentially saving my life. If fate had placed me in a different position, the outcome could have been drastically different.
Concerningly, there were indications prior to the incident that suggested trouble, and he disclosed that the event might stem from an unidentified underlying health issue.
He mentioned that he is receiving exceptional care, with a skilled cardiologist and oral surgeon on his team. Together, they are attempting to determine the cause and circumstances behind his episodes of fainting.
To date, all my vital checks – heart health, artery condition, and brain scans – have come back clear. There’s no indication of any underlying conditions that could potentially lead to an accident.
He mentioned that he intends to devote the upcoming period to his recuperation, and he informed his followers that his profession is currently not his main concern.
‘The singer explained why she won’t be performing for a while. Her jaw needs time to heal, followed by extensive physical therapy to regain normal jaw function. After that, her damaged teeth will need to be replaced. She wanted her fans to know this and expressed her love for them.’

‘Darling Darren. Arms around you,’ wrote Bachelor Girl singer Tania Doko.
Apologetically, I’m saddened by the news, but overjoyed to learn that you were discovered and are now on the path to healing. Wishing you an abundance of love, Kirsty Webeck included this message.
After Hayes revealed the reasons behind Savage Garden’s disbandment in 2001, when they were at the pinnacle of their popularity, it occurred.
The duo known as Savage Garden, consisting of Darren and guitarist Daniel Jones, came together in 1993 and churned out numerous chart-topping songs like “To the Moon and Back” and “Truly Madly Deeply.
However, a rift between the bandmates caused them to part ways after eight years together.
In an upcoming interview with Sarah Grynberg for her A Life of Greatness podcast prior to the publication of his memoir Unloveable, Darren revealed that he experienced a significant, painful betrayal on a personal level due to the separation.
Darren stated, “The reason for our disagreement was because he publicly claimed that the band’s split was unexpected, but in reality, it wasn’t.
During the Kyle and Jackie O Show in 2022, Darren referenced a press conference Daniel had given in 2001, where Daniel expressed sadness about Savage Garden disbanding. However, Darren alleged that he didn’t discuss this matter with Daniel before making his announcement public.
Originating in Brisbane back in 1993, Savage Garden unveiled two studio albums – the first one titled Savage Garden in 1997, followed by Affirmation in 1999.
Or, more casually:
Savage Garden, which started in Brisbane in 1993, put out two albums, the debut one being called Savage Garden (released in 1997), and the second one was Affirmation (came out in 1999).
In 1997, their albums collectively sold an impressive 23 million copies around the world, and they also set a new record by winning a staggering ten ARIA Music Awards.
