Darren Day reveals he’s been rushed to A&E with ‘suspected broken bones’ an HOUR before his latest panto appearance – after confirming he is now a grandfather

Actors are usually encouraged to break a leg before taking to the stage. 

Despite potentially breaking his arm, Darren Day still performed in Mother Goose on Friday. He had to go to the emergency room earlier that day, but didn’t let it stop him from appearing in the touring production.

The 57-year-old actor, a new grandfather, shared a photo on Instagram of his injured arm while waiting for medical attention.

He updated his followers saying he was in the emergency room with what doctors suspect are broken bones in his wrist and elbow, and that he had just over an hour before he was due onstage.

For Easter, Day will star as the villain Demon Vanity in a new production of Mother Goose, alongside Helen Flanagan (known from Coronation Street) as Princess Jill and Basil Brush as King Basil.

The experienced actor was getting ready for his second performance at Roses Theatre in Tewkesbury when the accident happened.

In a comment on Darren’s latest Instagram post, his co-star Flanagan wrote, ‘You’re the best, Darren! Love you lots.’

Day and the other actors are currently performing across the UK as part of a month-long tour of the Anson Benson Productions stage show. Their last performance is set for April 19th at the Victoria Theatre in Halifax.

The performer recently visited the emergency room. This news follows an announcement that he and his former partner, Suzanne Shaw, are now grandparents, as their son Corey and his girlfriend Erin recently had a baby.

On Tuesday, 44-year-old singer Suzanne Shaw, formerly of the band Hear’Say, announced that her stepson Corey’s girlfriend had welcomed a baby boy named Colton.

Although their breakup in 2005 was difficult, the former couple now seem to be on good terms, happily posing with their new baby.

In 2003, while performing in a touring production of Summer Holiday, Day and Shaw had an affair even though they were both engaged to others.

Let me tell you, watching a career crumble is never easy, and in this case, it all started with a really difficult personal decision. Back in 2005, this actor walked out on his partner and their incredibly young son, Corey, on Mother’s Day. It was a tough time for everyone, as his partner was also struggling with postnatal depression. Reports say he made the heartbreaking statement, ‘I don’t do family,’ and unfortunately, that moment really impacted his public image and career trajectory.

Day playfully acknowledged becoming a grandfather, joking about the age difference between him and Suzi Shaw, the baby’s grandmother, with a post saying, ‘Grandad loves you so much…and is actually old enough to be a Grandparent, unlike Nanny!’

Shaw shared some heartwarming news: his son, Corey, recently became a father to a baby boy. He described the new arrival as ‘something beautiful, something true,’ and noted the baby was ‘wrapped softly in blue’.

Colton, I love you more than anything! You’re absolutely perfect, and even though I need to get reading glasses like Grandpa, I’m so excited to teach you how to do handstands and cartwheels.

Okay, so even Basil Brush is getting in on the action! He just posted about having a fantastic first show with Darren Day at the Princess Theatre in Clacton-on-Sea, and let everyone know he’s performing again tonight at 6:30pm. It’s fun to see everyone, even puppets, sharing their experiences!

Day later married Stephanie Dooley, but they divorced in 2019 after nine years of marriage. Remarkably, she had forgiven him for his affair with Shaw years earlier.

He is now engaged to his current partner, Sophie Ladds.
