Darkest Before the Dawn

Selma Blair shared a cryptic post on social media over the weekend.

On Sunday, the actress (aged 52) posted pictures on Instagram from a journey she had taken with her 13-year-old son Arthur Saint Bleick. Alongside the images, she wrote a thoughtful message.

As a devoted parent, I co-parent my single child with my former partner, the renowned fashion designer Jason Bleick, who was my boyfriend from 2010 to 2012.

It seemed like they were having a relaxing break from the persistent wildfires in Los Angeles, as they appeared to be vacationing at the Terranea Resort located in Rancho Palos Verdes, Southern California.

Accompanying her collection of photos, the actress from Cruel Intentions, who was taken aback when she was mistaken for a famous pop star at the airport, penned down in her caption: “The darkest hour is just before the dawn.

She continued, ‘I don’t know really if that’s true, but I’ve said it my whole life it seems.’

‘I think great things are coming,’ she added. ‘I’m glad to see it.’

It seemed like she was talking about friends who had experienced the destructive wildfires, as she mentioned, “I feel deeply concerned for my trusted companions here.

She also expressed a hopeful sentiment, saying, “Let’s aim for something extraordinary today. Dream large, shine brightly, and find peace in love.

The cover photo of her post showed her wearing a white, knit sweater with red stripes.

In this photo, she gazed sadly from the window of a beautiful waterfront house, enjoying the warm glow of the setting sun.

Additionally, she added a photo that she took afterwards, as evidenced by her wearing a white shirt with buttons and her hair tied up, posing before another vibrant sunset at the same location.

In a recent post, the former Hellboy cast member shared two photos – one capturing the picturesque view at the resort, and another showing her son Arthur interacting happily with their cherished service dog, Scout.

In a simpler, more conversational way: The teenager had lightened his hair to platinum blonde, and he was gently stroking their English Labrador, Scout, as the dog leaped onto him.

Blair too posted a picture where her son was gazing at the beautiful sunset scene, rather than facing the camera, while they were on vacation together.

In the closing months of 2021, the writer of “Mean Baby” brought a new member, Scout, into her family – a service dog – which came three years after she received a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) back in 2018.

Her post emerged during the persistent wildfires affecting Los Angeles, and it followed not long after she disclosed her latest health status.

Towards the end of last year, Blair announced that she had achieved remission from Multiple Sclerosis (MS). She noted that her health has been significantly improving since receiving a bone marrow treatment and modifying her medication regimen.

She shared with Variety in November 2024 that she’s been experiencing a significant improvement in her health over the past year, which has allowed her to return to work and accomplish some exciting developments, which she will soon reveal.

She informed the media outlet that she hadn’t anticipated her health would recover as significantly as it has, given the illness she’s managing, which is characterized by the deterioration of the myelin sheath surrounding nerves.

As per the Mayo Clinic, Multiple Sclerosis (MS) may lead to sensory issues like numbness, muscle weakness, difficulties in walking, alterations in vision, and various other symptoms.

Last year, Blair shared that she had felt extremely weak and the haze and movements at night made it unbearable for her to venture outside during those hours, as she looked back on her experience prior to going into remission.

‘I just had no strength,’ she continued. ‘I didn’t think I’d get to feel this grounded.’

In a recent chat with UsWeekly, I shared: “Greetings! Many of you have inquired about my well-being and the noticeable difference in my movements. Let me tell you, I’m absolutely thrilled!

I’d like to share some good news – I’m currently in remission and feeling fantastic. However, following my bone marrow transplant, I experienced a severe setback, or a major relapse.”

This version aims to convey the same meaning as your original sentence but with a more natural flow, using easy-to-understand language. It also adds some nuance by explicitly stating that the patient initially felt well after the transplant before experiencing a relapse.

In simpler terms, the star stated that an MRI scan revealed bright spots (flare) and fresh spots (lesions), prompting her to seek out a different physician.

But she felt lucky to have found a ‘great one’ who put her on an ‘amazing’ journey with medication.

That has improved her speech and movement.
