Dark Horse Comics will release Marvel’s Most Villainous: Magneto in Fall 2026. This new series will explore Magneto’s complete history through archival collections spanning six decades of Marvel comics. The first volume, arriving in October 2026, will feature classic stories and insightful commentary from comics historians John Lind and Chris Ryall, as well as contributions from renowned creators like Grant Morrison and Chris Claremont.

Marvel’s new archive, Marvel’s Most Villainous: Magneto, offers a deep and detailed look at the complexities of the X-Men’s iconic antagonist. This first volume collects classic stories from 1963 to 2003, showcasing Magneto’s battles with heroes like the X-Men, the Avengers, and Thor. It features work by legendary creators including Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Roy Thomas, and Neal Adams, along with art by Dave Cockrum, John Byrne, and Jim Lee, among others. As a huge Marvel fan, I’ve always found Magneto to be such a complex character. It’s really interesting to learn that he was inspired by real-life figures like Malcolm X – that whole “by any means necessary” philosophy totally fits his drive for mutant rights. It makes so much sense that Marvel would draw on those kinds of powerful leaders to shape their stories. And I recently discovered that Chris Claremont, who wrote so much of the X-Men, specifically mentioned Menachem Begin as another influence on Magneto’s background. It really adds another layer to understanding why Magneto is the way he is!

I’ve always been fascinated by Magneto. What really grabs me is how he’s constantly wrestling with who he is, and how the world around him – especially his past as a Holocaust survivor – shapes everything he does. It makes you see him as more than just a typical comic book villain; you start to understand why he feels the need for revenge. He’s not simply ‘good’ or ‘evil,’ he’s incredibly complex, and I’m really excited that this new book, Marvel’s Most Villainous: Magneto, is going to explore all those layers.
