Dark “70s-inspired” crime thriller with “gnarly old-school vibe” finds new UK streaming home

The gritty ’70s-style crime thriller, Copshop, known for its raw, vintage ambiance, has secured a new streaming platform in the UK as its latest residence.

In this movie, Gerard Butler portrays Bob Viddick, a hired gun, who intentionally turns himself in to law enforcement so he can execute a target, Teddy Murretto, played by Frank Grillo. Interestingly, Teddy had been apprehended as well, attempting to evade the hitman’s pursuit.

In this story, a clever trickster, wanted by a deadly assassin, comes up with a plan to seek refuge within a local police department. However, when the assassin shows up at the station, an unaware new officer ends up being drawn into the danger.

As a die-hard movie enthusiast, I’d say that “Copshop” delivers an exhilarating dose of 70’s-inspired action, packing a punch with its familiar yet engaging narrative. It may not break new ground, but it certainly makes up for it with its infectious energy and zest.

The movie delivers gripping action, exaggerated dialogues, appealing rogues, and an electrifying soundtrack dominated by electronic beats and percussion, all while maintaining a gritty, retro ambiance, as described by Slant Magazine.

As a gaming enthusiast immersed in the world of action-packed thrillers, I can tell you that “Copshop” is a slick, high-octane tribute to the 70s action genre. To put it another way, this movie is like a well-crafted video game level where every move counts and the adrenaline never stops flowing. Now, when it comes to describing its cinematic flavor, I’d have to agree with those who say it’s a bit artificial and mass-produced. It’s like a fast food meal that leaves you satisfied but not quite nutritious – still, it hits the spot when you just want a quick, entertaining fix.

Simultaneously, Mark Kermode offered his opinion: “I find myself appreciating Gerrard Butler’s performances on screen more than ever. It’s not a masterpiece, but certain parts were effective…it’s neither fantastic nor poor, but intriguing.
