Darius Rucker revealed on Wednesday that he’s engaged to his girlfriend, Emily Deahl, after a year together.

The 59-year-old singer proposed to the 33-year-old social media star, sharing a photo of the moment – him down on one knee – on Instagram.

Darius Rucker, the lead singer of Hootie & the Blowfish, expressed how happy his new fiancée has made him.

“You’ve shown me a happiness I never thought possible,” said the Charleston, South Carolina native.

Rucker, known for songs like ‘Hold My Hand,’ ‘Only Wanna Be with You,’ and ‘Let Her Cry,’ shared, ‘From the moment I met you, I knew I couldn’t imagine my life without you, and now, thankfully, I don’t have to.’

Three-time Grammy winner Rucker was photographed with Deahl, who was showing off the diamond engagement ring with a gold band he gave her. They were embracing in the photo.

Deahl shared the proposal photo on her Instagram Stories and explained why she’s been private about her relationship with Rucker.

Deahl explained that she hadn’t meant to keep this part of her life private for so long, but falling in love made her realize how deeply personal and important love is to her.

Honestly, my biggest priority was safeguarding our connection, and I was so stressed about having to constantly edit him out of photos. It’s a huge relief that’s no longer something I need to worry about. It really felt like a weight lifted!

Deahl explained that she hadn’t meant to keep this part of her life private for so long, but falling in love had shown her how deeply personal and important love is to her.

Deahl explained that her only goal was to safeguard her connection with the musician, who has recently been experimenting with country music.

Deahl expressed relief that she wouldn’t have to remove him from photos anymore.

I’ve been following Rucker for a while now, and I know he’s a proud dad to three wonderful kids. He has a daughter, Carolyn, who’s 30 and from his relationship with Elizabeth Ann Phillips. Then there’s Daniella, who’s 24, and his son Jack, who’s 20 – both of them he shares with his ex-wife, Beth Leonard. It’s lovely to see how much he values his family.

Deahl has past alluded to the age gap between her and the musician on her Instagram account.

In a video she shared in September, while at a Lady Gaga concert with Rucker, Deahl mentioned overhearing people talking about them.

She explained that it’s frustrating when people assume her age, saying, ‘When I see comments saying I must be in my 20s, it’s annoying. My brain has been fully developed for years, so I appreciate the reminder, I guess.’
