Daredevil’s Post-Credits Scene Sets Up Historic Punisher Return
The future arrival of The Punisher in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was initiated by a pivotal scene during the credits of Daredevil’s comeback, titled “Daredevil: Born Again”.
Fans erupted with excitement when it was announced that Jon Bernthal would once again play the beloved character, Frank Castle (also known as The Punisher), in Daredevil: Born Again. True to form, this series provided several intense action scenes fitting of the antihero.
Daredevil Ends on Historic Post-Credits Scene
Similar to numerous Marvel Cinematic Universe series, the finale of Daredevil: Born Again concluded with a scene after the credits to lay the groundwork for future narratives.
Although those tags hinted at upcoming Marvel films and series, the stinger for “Born Again” marked a historical moment by being the first post-credit scene in the MCU to establish a Marvel Studios Special Presentation.
The setting showcases a captive Frank, confined within Fisk’s prison-like quarters reminiscent of the Middle Ages. Upon encountering an officer, Frank forcibly pulls him against the cell wall, causing him to lose consciousness. The sequence concludes with an implication that this is how The Punisher manages his escape and returns to the streets of New York.
It has been confirmed that Jon Bernthal, who plays The Punisher, will return in a future Marvel Studios presentation focused on this character, set for release in 2026. This post-credits scene serves as a prelude to this upcoming project. Bernthal is involved in the writing process for this special and it’s anticipated that the story will center around The Punisher alone, given his fiery temperament.
Earlier special presentations like “Werewolf by Night” and “The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special” were unveiled without any prior announcement or hint about their release.
There isn’t much confirmed information regarding upcoming Disney+ specials, but there are whispers about one potentially focusing on Silver Surfer. Fans might get a hint from the post-credits scene in The Fantastic Four: First Steps as to whether a Special Presentation featuring the Herald of Galactus is imminent.
What Might The Punisher Special Presentation Be About?
It seems that while earlier reports suggested Jon Bernthal was part of the cast for Daredevil: Born Again‘s Season 2, the post-credit scene in the season finale might have hinted at a future Punisher Special Presentation instead.
It’s quite possible that the “Punisher” Special will provide insight into what Frank Castle (the Punisher) has been doing since his escape from captivity, and thus serve as a link between the events of “Born Again.
As a die-hard movie enthusiast, I find myself contemplating an intriguing possibility: The Special could potentially be a prequel tale, shedding light on Castle’s past adventures during the prolonged interval since we last saw him in his standalone Punisher series on Netflix.
Without a doubt, it is evident that any future Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) roles for Frank Castle will involve him enacting his unique brand of justice through relentless and furious violence.
Every episode of Marvel Television’s Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 is now streaming on Disney+.
