Fans believe Iron Fist and Luke Cage might return in season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again. The new season is scheduled to premiere on March 4, 2026, continuing the story after the dramatic ending of season 1.
After the hints dropped in the first season’s finale, most of the excitement surrounding season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again centers on who will be in the cast. Some fans are hoping to see Spider-Man, played by Tom Holland, join forces with Daredevil to fight Kingpin, while others want the show to expand on the storylines from the old Netflix Defenders series.
A cast member from the upcoming season two of Daredevil: Born Again and a popular Marvel Cinematic Universe theory suggest that fans of the old Netflix Marvel shows might finally get what they’ve been hoping for.

Let’s look at how the first season of Daredevil: Born Again hints at the potential return of the Defenders in season two. The season finale shows Kingpin, now the Mayor, planning to essentially create his own independent city within the Red Hook port area. To fight back against Fisk’s power grab, Daredevil starts gathering allies, telling them he’s building a team.
Following his team-up with Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist in The Defenders, it’s hard to think of many other heroes who would naturally join Daredevil’s fight. Since the other Defenders all live in New York City, they’re also directly affected by Kingpin’s increasingly controlling rule.
The first season of Daredevil: Born Again ended with hints that the Defenders team might reunite as Matt Murdock continues to fight against Mayor Fisk.
Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones Is The Only Defender Confirmed For Season 2 So Far

Rumors about characters crossing over became official when Jessica Jones was confirmed to appear in season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again. Krysten Ritter will reprise her role as Jessica Jones, bringing the two characters together on screen again for the first time since their appearance in The Defenders.
This increased speculation that more characters from the old Netflix Marvel shows would show up in the new series. Sana Amanat, a producer on Daredevil: Born Again, has explained that Jessica Jones could bring a lot to the show – she can be serious and intense when the story calls for it, but also isn’t afraid to call people out on their dishonesty.
In The Defenders, Jessica Jones frequently teased Matt Murdock about his more obvious crime-fighting approach. This dynamic will likely continue in season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again, as these two heroes team up again within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Daredevil Season 2 Is Hiding The Returns Of Luke Cage And Iron Fist – Theory Explained

But the speculation doesn’t end there. A popular theory about the second season of Daredevil: Born Again is that it’s secretly setting up appearances by Luke Cage and Iron Fist, who previously teamed up with Jessica Jones and Daredevil in The Defenders. Many fans believed Jessica Jones was the most likely of The Defenders to eventually reappear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Besides Daredevil, Jessica Jones was the only other Netflix series to run for three seasons, and it generally maintained a similar level of quality. Iron Fist and Luke Cage both faced production challenges, particularly Iron Fist. Because of these issues, it’s unclear if these shows will be revived as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, even though some fans speculate they could team up with Daredevil.
Keeping Luke Cage and Iron Fist’s appearances in Daredevil: Born Again season 2 a secret would be a smart move. It would create a bigger surprise for viewers, especially considering the questions around their returns, and also fit naturally into the storyline. If this happens, it would mean all four of The Defenders – Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Jessica Jones – would be reunited.
Why Danny Rand And Luke Cage Deserve To Return To The MCU

No matter the complicated storylines, both Iron Fist and Luke Cage should come back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Mike Colter was fantastic as Luke Cage, and his show was consistently good across both seasons. While Iron Fist had its ups and downs, Finn Jones wasn’t to blame, and the character had a lot of potential. Now that the events of the Defenders saga seem increasingly relevant to the MCU, both heroes deserve another chance.
With all four heroes potentially returning within the large-scale Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the promising direction of the Daredevil: Born Again series, there’s a lot of potential for the Defenders characters. Luke Cage and Iron Fist should get the same opportunities as Jessica Jones and Daredevil, even though the latter two are currently more well-known.
We’re hoping season two of Daredevil: Born Again will bring back all four main characters, giving each of them a fair opportunity to prove themselves as key players in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with strong storylines.
