I’m absolutely loving the second season of Daredevil: Born Again! It’s been getting amazing reactions, and honestly, it’s exceeding the high bar set by the first season. This season really kicks things up a notch with the conflict between Daredevil and Wilson Fisk, played brilliantly by Vincent D’Onofrio – it’s not just about Daredevil taking down Kingpin anymore, the stakes are much higher. It’s great to see so many familiar faces back, and some of the new characters are really making an impression. One new villain, in particular, is seriously terrifying and I have a feeling they’re going to be a major player going forward.
Matthew Lillard joined the show in season 2 as ‘Mr. Charles,’ a CIA agent who reports directly to Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ character, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. Though his background remains largely unknown, Mr. Charles appears to have more power and reach than Wilson Fisk, tasked with managing the fallout from events like the Northern Star and Red Hook for a much larger organization. This role follows a pattern of intriguing parts for Matthew Lillard recently.
Matthew Lillard Has Played a Villain in Three 2026 Projects

Matthew Lillard is having a busy and successful 2026, starring in several major projects with more planned. Interestingly, he’s played the villain in three of them so far. In the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again, his character, Mr. Charles, is portrayed as a genuinely frightening figure. His arrogant and condescending attitude towards Wilson Fisk reveals that his ambitions extend far beyond New York City. He’s only interested in the Red Hook port as a way to transport a large shipment of weapons on the North Star to powerful individuals.
This year, Damian Lillard showcased his acting range in several roles. He played a villain in the Amazon Prime crime thriller Cross, based on James Patterson’s Alex Cross novels, portraying the criminal Lance Durand who was involved in human trafficking. He also returned to the Scream franchise, briefly reprising his iconic role as Stu Macher in Scream 7.
Matthew Lillard Is in the Middle of a Career Renaissance

At 56, the actor is experiencing a career revival, earning praise for his recent work. It started with his popular role as William Afton in the 2023 movie Five Nights at Freddy’s, and he’s since appeared in several prominent films and TV shows. While he’s spent the last twenty years doing voice work and smaller parts, he was well-known for leading roles in the late 90s and early 2000s.
Matthew Lillard is best known for playing Shaggy Rogers in the live-action Scooby-Doo movies from the 2000s, a role many feel he was perfectly cast in. He’s continued to voice Shaggy in various Scooby-Doo projects for the past two decades. But Lillard has proven his versatility with roles like Mr. Charles in Daredevil: Born Again and Lance Durand in Cross. He’s poised to take on more prominent roles soon, including appearances in Mike Flanagan’s adaptation of Stephen King’s Carrie and the Tony Gilroy drama Behemoth!
