Daredevil: Born Again Producer Drops Major Hint About Punisher’s Explosive Post-Credits Twist!
It has been verified that the surprise ending featuring The Punisher, as shown after the credits in the upcoming series “Daredevil: Born Again,” will take a particular direction in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s future.
The initial season of “Daredevil: Born Again” ended with an abundance of dramatic events, such as the entire city of New York being placed under martial law due to the actions of Mayor Wilson Fisk, portrayed by Vincent D’Onofrio. This situation, along with his renewed determination to pursue and eliminate vigilantes, promises a lot of potential turmoil for the series in future episodes.
In the storyline of “Born Again” Season 1, Jon Bernthal’s character, The Punisher, featured prominently. He appeared in two out of the nine episodes. This was his comeback to the role since 2019, yet it seems that he hasn’t exhausted his penchant for dispensing harsh justice within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) just yet.
Punisher’s Post-Credits Tease Sets Up Story Post-Daredevil: Born Again
In a conversation with Entertainment Weekly, the producer of “Daredevil: Born Again”, Dario Scardapane, hinted at what fans might anticipate from Jon Bernthal’s character, The Punisher, following his surprising appearance and escape attempt in the post-credit scene of Episode 9.
During a conversation about Season 2 of Born Again, Scardapane revealed that the post-credits scene sets up exactly what the upcoming Punisher storyline will entail.
To be honest, I’m not sure. However, it seems reasonable to infer that the post-credit scene sets up what the upcoming Punisher series will entail.
Later on, he was questioned about whether the post-credit sequence was filmed specifically in reaction to the Punisher special that was officially greenlit during the promotional tour for “Born Again.
Scardapone admitted that the scene was intended to hint at Frank not being confined for an extended period, and it was part of a broader Marvel plan. This plot point was developed later in the production process, but it significantly contributes to revealing where both characters are headed in future storylines.
The decision to integrate Jon, the Punisher, further into the Marvel universe was made due to a larger plan. He was apprehended by the task force, and we didn’t want his story to end there on that island. Instead, we wanted to hint at Frank’s impending freedom. This development came towards the end of our planning stages, but it quickly became apparent that this was the ideal approach for both continuing the Daredevil narrative and setting up what’s next for the Punisher.
What to Expect From Punisher Special Post-Daredevil: Born Again
After the conclusion of “Daredevil: Born Again” Season 1, a scene following the credits hinted at Jon Bernthal’s Punisher embarking on a journey deeply rooted in his familiar territory – seeking retribution.
Following his capture by Wilson Fisk’s Anti-Vigilante Task Force, he managed to manipulate a guard into handing him something, which he then used to severely wound the guard. With this act, he escaped from his cell. Now, he is determined to bring down not just Fisk but the entire Task Force. His sights are also set on vigilantes throughout New York City, as they appear to be under increased threat.
The main plot of Bernthal’s forthcoming Punisher standalone episode is set to unfold prior to Frank Castle returning for another bout of violence in the second season of “Daredevil: Born Again”.
It’s also mentioned that Bernthal played a significant role in crafting the story for his Punisher special, with Marvel Television head Brad Winderbaum commenting that the character is “deeply connected to Jon.” This level of personal investment from the actor will likely contribute to maintaining the high-quality and thrilling experience that fans have come to anticipate from this antihero.
Currently, we don’t have any details about the filming or release date of the upcoming Punisher special. However, it’s officially confirmed that Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 will debut on Disney+ in March 2026.
