Dario Scardapane, the co-creator and showrunner, shared why the series remains largely separate from the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe. He also clarified why fans shouldn’t expect cameos from Spider-Man or other Avengers.
According to recent comments from Scardapane, the new Daredevil: Born Again series intentionally feels separate from the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, despite Daredevil having appeared in other MCU projects. He explained the creative team jokes about this by saying their version of the story is ‘downtown’ while other MCU stories are ‘uptown,’ suggesting a distinct, street-level focus.
Scardapane described the show’s setting as being firmly rooted in the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood of New York City. While the Marvel Cinematic Universe is vast and allows for large-scale storytelling, Daredevil: Born Again will focus on smaller, more personal stories.
Daredevil Interacted With Other MCU Characters
Scardapane explained that while this series exists within the expansive Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s connected to other projects through character crossovers. We’ve already seen Daredevil appear in other shows, and more characters from this series will show up in future movies and shows, all contributing to the bigger MCU story.
The filmmaker said he’d be open to creating a larger crossover series for television, explaining that he’s a fan of the source comics. He acknowledged it would be a difficult but enjoyable project.
Created by John Scardapane, Matt Corman, and Chris Ord, the new series features Charlie Cox, a 43-year-old actor from London, reprising his role as Daredevil. It takes place several years after the original Daredevil series, which was part of the Defenders lineup on Netflix and produced by Marvel Television.
The new series Daredevil: Born Again brought back many beloved characters from previous seasons, including Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Wilson Bethel as Bullseye, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, Ayelet Zurer as Vanessa Fisk, Jon Bernthal as the Punisher, and Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk, also known as the Kingpin. The series also introduced Hunter Doohan as Muse, a terrifying new serial killer.
What Does the Future Look Like for Daredevil: Born Again?
Following the huge popularity of Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 in 2025, Disney+ quickly renewed the series for three seasons. Marvel Studios’ head of streaming, television, and animation plans to release a new season each March, continuing as long as viewers remain interested.
Fans can expect to see Krysten Ritter reprise her role as Jessica Jones in the upcoming season. News of her return has led to speculation that the character will be dealing with some very difficult circumstances in Season 2.
According to Amanat, Jones prefers to work independently, which is why her return to the project feels so meaningful. She adds a unique blend of grit and humor to the often-dark and serious tone of Daredevil, offering a refreshing and honest perspective.
Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is currently slated to premiere on Disney+ on Mar. 24.
