Danny Trejo brawls at a Fourth of July parade in Sunland-Tujunga. Why? A water balloon

As a long-time movie buff with a deep appreciation for the careers of Hollywood legends, I was saddened and disappointed to learn about Danny Trejo’s altercation during the Fourth of July celebration in Sunland-Tujunga.

During a Fourth of July celebration in Sunland-Tujunga, Danny Trejo, known for his role in “Machete” and the owner of Trejos Tacos, got into a physical altercation.

On Thursday, a skirmish ensued during a Rotary Club’s parade where an action star of 80 years old was present as a guest. The incident occurred when Trejo, riding in a white convertible low-rider in the procession, halted his vehicle after someone splashed a water balloon against it. (Source: social media videos)

At a recent event, the actor famous for “From Dusk Till Dawn” got out of his car and approached a cluster of spectators on the sidewalk. In response to someone throwing a water balloon at him, which hit the Latino star’s head, he engaged in a fistfight with an individual dressed in black shorts, a sleeveless shirt, and a hat. The scuffle caused Trejo to tumble onto the ground. The video published by KTTV Fox 11 reveals that this person also attacked Trejo’s companion, Mario Castillo, leaving him injured and covered in blood.

An alternate rendering could be: The video revealed Trejo regaining balance, seizing a collapsible chair, and heaving it towards the tumultuous throng. However, TMZ posted footage from a different angle, depicting someone attempting to restrain Trejo from joining the melee instead.

As a cinema enthusiast, I was unfortunate enough to be in close proximity during an unsettling incident. At the scene in Sunland-Tujunga, I witnessed Trejo shoving women aside to reach those involved. Children were present, making the situation even more precarious. The aftermath could have escalated into chaos if only he had remained in his vehicle.

Spishak expressed that Trejo struck him as he intervened in the brawl among the crowd. “I hold Danny Trejo in high regard and believe he’s an awesome guy,” Spishak shared, “but it’s important for him to learn when to decline such situations.”

I reached out to Trejo’s team and the Sunland/Tujunga/Shadow Hills Rotary Club regarding their involvement in the Fourth of July celebration, but I haven’t received a response yet.

I was among the crowd of Sunland-Tujunga residents holding Arnie Abramyan back that chaotic day. The scene was a tangled mess of bodies, with many people standing between him and the one who had thrown the water balloon. His anger was palpable as he screamed and yelled in fury, attempting to push through the crowd and reach his target.

Abramyan, head of Sunland-Tujunga Chamber of Commerce, shared with The Times that this was Trejo’s inaugural appearance in our Fourth of July parade. Notably, Abramyan’s business, Arnieville, is among the event sponsors. He mentioned that there existed a specific segment within the parade route where folks could enjoy splashing each other with Super Soakers and water balloons. However, unfortunate incident occurred as Trejo was struck by a water projectile, but he wasn’t present at the designated area when this took place.

I was there at the scene when Los Angeles law enforcement arrived, following a disturbance that occurred nearby. According to my understanding, they arrived after the brawl had already taken place, as stated by Abramyan. He further mentioned that Trejo expressed no interest in filing any charges against those involved. Subsequently, my colleagues and I from the Chamber of Commerce held an urgent meeting following the parade to discuss how best to offer our sincere apologies to Mr. Trejo for any role we might have unintentionally played in this unfortunate incident.

“Abramyan expressed his uncertainty about whether he’d join the parade once more, yet we’re determined to reconcile and extend our affection and esteem towards him,” is a possible paraphrase for the original statement.
