Danny Trejo, 81, shuts down viral death rumors spread by his former co-star John Leguizamo

On Sunday, it became necessary for Danny Trejo to refute popular speculation that he had passed away following unconfirmed reports of a stroke.

On Saturday, John Leguizamo, a former co-star of the now 81-year-old convict-turned-movie star, shared on Instagram a tribute saying ‘Rest In Peace’, in response to a misleading August 19th news report from Polonia News.

Danny, with a following of 13.3 million on social media, posted on Instagram to assure everyone, ‘I’m happy to say that I’m doing just fine and I appreciate your concern.’

‘Someone is spreading fake news.’

22 years have passed since Trejo made a special appearance on the Emmy-winning Nickelodeon sitcom, The Brothers García, which first aired 65 years ago.

By chance, Echo Park’s hometown hero and John received recognition on August 22 at the 40th Imagen Awards held in Beverly Hills. This event, focusing on Latino culture, will be aired on PBS starting October 1.

In a different phrasing, here’s how that sentence could be reworded: Danny received the award for Best Variety/Reality Show for his History Channel show Mysteries Unearthed, while John Leguizamo, who wasn’t present, was honored with the Best Actor award for his role in Bob Trevino Likes It.

For the last month, Trejo has kept quite busy. He recently organized an event consisting of a meet-and-greet and a concert for his music label, Trejo’s Music, held at the Regent Theater in Los Angeles on August 30th.

Previously, the actor from Big City Greens participated in the 15th anniversary showing of Machete at Vidiots in Los Angeles together with screenwriter Alvaro Rodriguez.

On the 23rd of August, Danny commendably marked his 57th year without alcohol, having spent periods both inside and outside various prisons such as San Quentin, Folsom, and Soledad in the past.

In a conversation with People last year, Trejo expressed his gratitude as he shared that, considering the circumstances, he shouldn’t have survived the 1960s.

“I went through a really challenging period, and many people didn’t think I would survive. Looking back now, I believe I’m still here due to divine intervention.

The successful restaurant owner went on to remark: ‘Whenever someone asks me if I ever dreamed of this, I never envisioned leaving prison. In 1969, the parole board told me, “Return with a life sentence. We’ve had enough of you.”‘

‘I never went back. I mean, every day, every day for me is just a blessing.’

In the current production, Trejo plays the role of the gun-carrying character Jimmy, in Victor Rios’ intense fentanyl-related crime drama titled “Wages of Sin.” This gripping series made its debut on Amazon Prime Video last Friday, available for streaming video on demand (VOD).

Danny is set to make an appearance at this year’s Silver Scream Con, a four-day horror convention taking place in Worcester, Massachusetts, from September 12th through the 14th.

On May 31st, Trejo completed filming for an enigmatic character in Sally Shamrell’s independent film “Choir Practice”, which was being shot on location in Tucson, Arizona.

And the four-time divorcé has no less than 24 other upcoming acting projects in the works.

Danny undeniably held an advantage in the entertainment industry, given his relation as the second cousin to the award-winning independent filmmaker, Robert Rodriguez (Spirit Award winner).

In his personal life, Trejo has three children: Danny Jr., aged 44, Gilbert, who is 37, and Danielle, at 35. These kids were born to Diana Walton and Maeve Crommie, whom he parted ways with in 1983 and 1997 respectively.
